It would appear that Black is in the "Primary Palette" of official tOSU colors.

Scarlet and gray in combination are as well known as our name. They are our signature colors by which our audiences identify us as Ohio State.


For one game it's a "meh" issue for me. I just hope it inspires the kids to a beatdown on PSU.

2. Jersey Color—Visiting Team
a. The visiting team must wear white jerseys. Exceptions: (1) The visiting team has agreed in writing before the season that the home team may where white jerseys (I-a above). In this case, the visitor must wear its colored jerseys. (2) The teams have agreed in writing before the season that both teams will wear colored jerseys. In this case, the conference of the home team must certify that the visiting team’s jersey is of a contrasting color. If at the start of each half the visiting team is wearing a colored jersey without having met these conditions, there will be a 15-yard penalty on each opening kickoff for unsportsmanlike conduct.

I think the objection for some is not so much about whether black is a school color as it is about changing the uniform so radically from anything it has ever been that it is not recognizable as an Ohio State uniform. The same people who don't care for this probably also wouldn't care for it if they came out with a gimmick/alternate uniform with a scarlet helmet that had a silver stripe down the middle. Same colors, but wouldn't look like an Ohio State helmet.

Last time I checked, the team wearing black on Saturday is Ohio State. So long as they are playing, I will be watching. Times have changed, people just need to get over the Jersey discussion. We have had this same argument many times now and it doesn't change. If the sight of seeing the Buckeyes in black is so appalling, my suggestion is that you listen to it on the radio.
