Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

The same people who don't care for this probably also wouldn't care for it if they came out with a gimmick/alternate uniform with a scarlet helmet that had a silver stripe down the middle. Same colors, but wouldn't look like an Ohio State helmet.
In fact, Ohio State did come out with a reverse on the current helmet. In 1967 they went from a pearl gray helmet with a thick rubber pad down the middle covered with scarlet vinyl to a scarlet helmet with a gray stripe outlined in black and white. The next year, a national championship year, they donned the current helmet.

As I've stated before, I would have no objection whatsoever if the Buckeyes wore a genuine throw back uniform - go all Chic Harley on 'em in a gray shirt with vertical scarlet stripes on the front and numbers on the back only, a brown helmet and dark khaki pants with scarlet stockings. Or go out in Les Horvath togs - scarlet pants and helmet and a white jersey with scarlet numbers in that old advertising font. Do it and be authentic and I'll love it.

It would be something done for a reason beyond the crass desire to make money for Uncle Phil - to honor the school's proud athletic history.

Instead, Nike has given us half-assed throw back jerseys and uniforms with little regard for the history, and now for the colors, of the school.

This argument recurs at my house, revolving around the sock drawer.

You can never tell whether a pair of socks is black or dark navy ... until you put them on with a pair of black (or navy) pants. Then your mistake becomes obvious.

That's why I always go with white socks and sandals.

It's like Idiocracy.

Things we used to make fun of for their stupidity are now looked at as smart and trendy.

ehh, if the lads from Taps love of black is now seen as something serious and not to be made fun of, maybe we did hit that time warp.
Look, I've choked on vomit just as much as the next guy, just laughing at the notion that this board has had plenty of occasions for faux outrage that was then put back in ones face when circumstances changed. Most of the shit people complain about on here is beyond trivial.

Not really. If the problem is that black isn't a team color, then people should be bitching that we're forced to wear white. Same argument. We're OK because the NCAA forces white, but not OK because Nike forced black?

Or maybe the "black isn't in our fight song" complaint just rings hollow.

Yes you are.

You know damn well that for more than fifty years that one team in every single NCAA sanctioned football game was required to wear a white jersey.

It is absurd to compare that to the current situation. You know that it's absurd. You're just arguing to argue at this point.

Black is not recognized as one of Ohio State's school colors. Before you reply with another steaming pile of disingenuousness, tell us of a single instance prior to this argument when you referred to the Buckeyes as anything other than the "Scarlet & Gray". If you can do that honestly then you might have an argument.
