James “not elite” Franklin (HC Penn St. Nittany Lions)

Per the ESPN ticker, Franklin just signed a 10-year extension.

Still not elite.

That program has some real rocket surgeons as fans e.g. BornALion... Lazy and dumb stat indeed. Day and Riley have great records (admittedly over short timeframes). Kirby Smart is easily exceeding 0.200 albeit in the ratings-inflated SEC.

I really wanted to find out how many current coaches are better than .200 vs Top 10 teams currently. What I did find was all-time there are 40 teams that are .200 or better all-time and several coaches better than that but are retired/NFL such as Pete Carroll, Bob Stoops and Urban Meyer. Franklin is certainly none of those.

with very little effort, google tells me:

Kirk Ferentz: .352 (goes up to .413 if only count "last 10 years")
Jimbo Fisher .392 (goes up to .423 if you only count "last 10 years)
Brian Kelly .214 (goes up to .231 if you only count "last 10 years")
Dabo Swinney .629 (drops to .600 "last 10 years)
Nick Saban .756 (goes UP to .793 "last 10 years")
Ryan Day .714
Lincoln Riley .666
Kirby Smart .647

Coaches getting/got fired:
Ed Orgeron (last 10 years) .684
Dan Mullen exactly .200

So Franklin is nearly Brian Kelly good? I can see why they want to hold onto hix!
