Jameis Winston (QB Browns)

Given that he's eligible for the draft after this season... I think his smartest move is doing what he's doing now. Play the system leveraging his lawyer and a complicit athletic department through bowl season, then leave school academically -- claiming it became a "hostile environment" (that way it looks a little less like a tacit admission of guilt). Maybe even enroll at another 4yr University (outside scholarship athlete status) to perpetuate that narrative and give a semblance of continuing to pursue a degree; ie: demonstrate leaving FSU was a purely academic / environment decision.
Worst issue there is missing on FSU's pro day. But I'm sure he'll have a combine invite and be able to pull private workouts with scouts if he likes. It's a minimal sacrifice.
Even with all the character issues, somebody will draft him. QBs are a at a premium and teams will cover -- as we've seen with Ray Lewis, Roethlisberger, countless others. Rice would be playing if not for video evidence. For NFL teams, I think all of this stuff just means he comes at a discount. I'm sure that's how most GMs will look at it, it's a business.

I said when the punishment for OSU was handed down- the precedent was set, stonewalling and telling the NCAA to fuck off is absolutely the best policy when they come snooping around, now more than ever since anything could be the last straw for the power conferences to break away completely.

I would be surprised if anything comes of this by way of the NCAA.
Remember that the only reason the shit hit the fan with us was a federal investigation gave plenty of proof to the NCAA. The pesters also allowed an independent investigation. In this case the Feds again are doing the investigation. Regardless of what the school does in their 'investigation' the Feds will find out if anything happened here. The NCAA will then have everything on a silver platter.

Retired Supreme Court justice will hear Jameis Winston's Code of Conduct hearing

Florida State is using a retired state Supreme Court justice to preside over the Student Code of Conduct hearing involving star quarterback Jameis Winston, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

Three retired justices will be available for the sexual assault hearing, Mary Coburn, vice president of student affairs, told the paper. Winston and his accuser each are allowed to eliminate one justice. If they both choose the same justice, Florida State will choose from the remaining two.

The identity of the justice will be revealed when Winston appears for an information session regarding the alleged Student Code of Conduct violations later this week.

Winston and his attorney were informed Friday in a letter by Florida State interim president Garnett Stokes and Coburn that Winston “might be charged with one of four violations of FSU’s student conduct code regarding sexual conduct.” Winston and his attorney had five days to schedule an information hearing.

During that hearing, Winston will be presented with his rights and learn more about the conduct hearing. The conduct hearing will be held as soon as soon as possible after the informational hearing. That hearing will determine whether Winston will be charged with violating the school’s code of conduct.

State Attorney Willie Meggs ruled last year that there was insufficient evidence to press charges against Winston in an alleged sexual misconduct investigation involving a former female student in December 2012. The alleged victim said Winston raped her and filed a complaint with the federal Department of Education, which prompted a Title IX investigation.

Winston led the Seminoles to an undefeated season last year, a national title and won the Heisman Trophy. Florida State is 6-0 this year and Winston has started every game except against Clemson when he was suspended for yelling an obscene phrase in the student union.

Florida State's compliance department is looking into whether Jameis Winston signed more than 340 items for an autograph authentication company linked to suspended Georgia running back Todd Gurley. A source tells ESPN's Darren Rovell and Mark Schlabach that Winston told Florida State HC Jimbo Fisher he did not sign items for money. But a search of James Spence Authentication's website revealed more than 340 certified Winston autographs. The same company certified more than 500 of Gurley's autographs. The source says Florida State is investigating how the company received such a large number of Winston signatures.

Signed autographs? You might be able to get the NCAA to ignore rape and theft, but they will take a hard moral stance on someone profiting when they are not.

Not if Jimbo has anything to say about it:

"Kids sign things all the time," Fisher said after Saturday's game. "So what do you want them to do, stop signing stuff? We could make them not have any fans from that standpoint and not sign for anybody. That's what it's going to come to, and that's a shame for college football, that somebody exploits a kid. Now if they're getting paid for it, then I don't have any knowledge of that. I don't believe Jameis did."

Then you must be ignoring reality, Jimbo:

JSA authenticates items as it receives them and attaches the serial numbers in sequential order. JSA authenticated 76 of the exact same Florida State logo footballs in order with serial numbers J65886 through J65962 and 70 of the exact same signed mini helmets in order with serial numbers J66829 through J66896. The company also authenticated 53 jerseys in a row (J66947 through J67001), 38 11-by-14 photos (J66026 through J66064), 18 of the exact same footballs (J66919 through J66936) and 11 signed Rawlings baseballs (J66898 through J66911).
