Game Thread Iowa at tOSU, Homecoming, Oct 19, 3:30 ET, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2

Roby launched into the receiver's upper body. Dumb rule or not (it is), it was the appropriate call per the rule. These kids need to be smarter and not go for the knockout hits.

The rule covers the area above the shoulders and/or the use of the helmet. Roby hit him in the chest and did not use his helmet. I have no idea how that falls under their definition of targeting.

Again he led with the shoulder, and it took an awfully long time for the flag to come out. If you throw a flag based on a reaction and didn't actually see the offense you are a horrible official.....

To uphold that call was complete BS....and Rod Gilmore acts like he never played the game before.....

The college targeting rule is different than the NFL. You don't necessarily have to hit the head in college, hence "neck area".

Remember what they said before the season, "when in doubt, throw them out."

The announcers had it right; momentum shift. I don't think it went Iowa's way though - hope the crowd keeps it going.

Wiley Urban timed that ejection like a baseball manager. Evil Emperor Jim Delany already gave the green light to the referee's on the pregame hologram: "Commander Cody, the time has come. Execute Order 66." /Tin Foil Penn State Fan

Want to say he "launched"? Okay. But there is no rule as to where you have to hit a player.

Also don't tell me #86 was a defenseless player.
I don't like the rule any more than you, but he launched upwards and hit him above the shoulders as he was turning around. That was a textbook example of what they're gonna call. It's stupid, but it is what it is.
