Indians Tidbits (2010 season)

He can hit in AAA. He's looked totally overmatched against MLB pitching. That's understandable for a 21-23 year old kid, not a 25 year old kid that was drafted out of college. I'm hoping he comes around with more regular at bats, but given what I've seen thus far, I'm not optimistic.

It's Cleveland sports. The only option is to be optimistic because reality can be tough.

Nice outing by Talbot. LaBusta looks as busterific as ever. It's a really bad sign when a guy consistently rakes in AAA yet is completely baffled by mediocre MLB pitchers. Call it premature, but I'm almost ready to write him off completely. Smooth looks like the real deal though...

looking at info on the 2 acquired for Whiff Branyan

Ezequiel Carrera was rated as the fastest baserunner and "best strike zone discipline" in the Mariners organization by Baseball America

Ezequiel Carrera, CF - A plus-plus defender in center, a patient hitter at the plate and a speedster on the basepaths. Some believe he could develop some power down the road as well.

Indians Prospect Insider: Branyan Traded To Seattle

Carrera, 22, has spent the entire 2010 season to date at AAA Tacoma as he has hit .268 (57-213) with 24 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2 triples and 18 RBI in 64 games. He has stolen 9 bases in 14 attempts this season but is currently on the AAA disabled list with a left hip pointer. Before being injured, Carrera was hitting .311 (19-61) with 6 runs scored, 3 doubles and 6 RBI in 18 games during the month of June. Prior to the start of the 2010 season, Carrera was ranked as the 15th best prospect in the Mariners organization by Baseball America.

Last year, the left-handed hitting outfielder won the Southern League Batting title as he hit .337 (111-329) with 68 runs scored, 12 doubles, 4 triples, 2HR and 38RBI in 91 games at AA West Tennessee while being named to both the Southern League All-Star and also the Topps Double-A All-Star team. Carrera also posted a .441 on-base percentage which led the Southern League and was 3rd best in all of minor league baseball. The Venezuelan native was named the best defensive outfielder in the Florida State League in 2008 by Baseball America. Carrera was originally signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent in 2005 and will report to AAA Columbus in the coming day

Juan Diaz-

Signed as an amateur free agent on 4/20/06. Listed at 6?4/170. Bats both. Diaz has the reputation as a defensive whiz, though in actuality he may not be good enough to justify his lack of offense. The switch hitter had a breakout offensive season in High Desert, posting a .311/.356/.446 line in 84 ballgames. Still, that line was helped by a BABIP about 100 points above his career average and while the numbers look good, it wasn?t much more than average for the hitter friendly league. Diaz has improved his plate coverage but his groundball swing does not rate well long term. Diaz is likely a utility infielder.

Diaz, 21, a 6-4, 170-pound switch hitting shortstop, has spent the entire 2010 season to date at High Desert of the California League batting .295 (75-254) with 39 runs scored, 8 doubles, 3 triples, 7HR and 41RBI in 70 games. He has also stolen 8 bases in 10 attempts and has an OPS of .779 (.345 on-base % & .433 slg. %).

Last year, Diaz batted .311 (101-325) with 55 runs scored, 22 doubles, 5 triples, 4HR and 29RBI in 84 games at High Desert as he was named to the California League All-Star Team. The Dominican Republic native was on the disabled list from June 25-August 4th with a fractured hamate in the left hand however came back to finish the season and played for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Seattle in 2006 and will report to Kinston in the coming days.

yep, LaBusta looks like a classic AAAA player

Santana has 11 extra base hits in 15 games (7 2B 4 HR) and 14 RBIs (to go along with the .333 average), looking very good so far

good read

Indians Prospect Insider: Rodriguez Gets Nixed

summary- Josh Rodriguez (26) was hittng .341 with 6 HR and a 1.031 OPS in AAA

and instead of giving him a shot in the MLB, they make a pickup of a terrible player off Waivers (Jayson Nix and his .158 AVG) to play in the MLB

Rodriguez gets DROPPED DOWN to AA so Luis Valbuena (and his .160 MLB AVG) can play in AAA while the scrap heap waiver pickup gets to play in the MLB

the genius of Mark Shapiro at work

and crowe takes a hack at the first pitch and grounds into a double play

*facepalm*

especially when 2 of the 3 guys on base were walked. it wasn't even a good pitch, it was a curveball that was shit high. too many of these guys have no feel for the game whatsoever. laporta, although he smashed 2 balls tonight, did the same thing later in the game.

he is one of the guys that I talk about who are very good minor league players and then when they hit the majors they go into the tank.

Also, why does Acta keep on substituting Marte for Laporta in the eighth and ninth innings when the Indians are ahead (I know that is very seldom) but I think it is just giving them a reason to keep old A.M. around for another couple years.

I will have to take back everything that I said previously about Santana because he looks like the real deal. He is not just a catcher but a pretty good athlete as well.

I heard some chatter about Lonnie C either being injured or starting to struggle at the plate. I am afraid if they trade JP they might put Andy back at third base and that is scary.

Chisenhall was injured seems to be healthy now though. hes hitting .276 6 HR 28 RBI in 55 games in AA, been tearing it up since coming off the DL though

Kinston, NC – Former K-Triber and current Akron Aeros third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall will represent the United States team in the XM All-Star Futures Game as part of Major League Baseball’s All-Star Weekend. The game will take place Sunday, July 11th at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, home of the Los Angeles Angels. Chisenhall and Lake County Captains catcher Chun Chen will also be representing the Cleveland Indians organization.

Chisenhall is having a phenomenal bounce back last three weeks after slumping and suffering through a shoulder injury earlier in the season. He now has a .337 batting average with six home runs and 21 RBI in just 22 games since returning from the disabled list on May 28th. On the season, he currently leads all active Aeros with his six homers and slugging percentage of .452 while ranking second with 34 runs scored.

This is the Eastern North Carolina natives second stint with Double A Akron after joining the team in early August last season and participating in the 2009 Eastern League playoffs. He batted just .183 in 24 regular season games, but then led the Aeros to the EL Championship by batting .467 (14-for-30) in seven contests during the playoffs. Upon his first promotion to Double-A, he had ranked among the leaders of the Class A Carolina League in RBI, extra-base hits, homers, slugging percentage, doubles and hits.

Baseball America ranked Chisenhall as the second-best prospect in the Indians organization prior to the 2010 season. Cleveland selected the former shortstop in the first round (29th overall) in the June 2008 Draft out of Pitt Community College in North Carolina. The left-handed hitter is a native of Newport, NC and is officially the youngest player on the Aeros roster after turning 21 years old last October.

Former K-Triber Lonnie Chisenhall To Play In The All-Star Futures Game

jared goedert in AAA would get the call if peralta was moved. he's hitting very well and is every bit as good defensively as soft-toss baby huey. my guess is goedert is the starting 3b next year unless chisenhall blows up faster than expected.

Phillies Release Willy Taveras: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

The Phillies released Willy Taveras, MLBTR has learned. The Phillies signed the speedy outfielder earlier in the month, not long after the Nationals released him. The A's, who are paying most of Taveras' $4MM salary, released him in February, so this marks the third time the former NL stolen base champ has been released this year.

After struggling to produce offensively through 37 plate appearances for the Nats, Taveras moved on to the Phillies' Triple A team. He didn't fare much better in Lehigh Valley, where he hit .208/.255/.271 in 104 plate appearances.
