In the wake of all the draft stuff going on, the Indians made a very noteworthy roster move in their minor league system in the past 24 hours. I actually noted these moves as soon as they happened on my Twitter page (@tlastoria), but had not listed them on the site until now.
Anyway, the Indians have promoted second baseman Cord Phelps to Triple-A Columbus and to fill his spot in Akron they have also promoted second baseman Jason Kipnis to Double-A Akron. To word on a move at High-A Kinston to fill in for Kipnis, but I have to wonder if it will be infielder Casey Frawley from Low-A Lake County who gets the promotion (this is speculation on my part).
Kipnis was selected in the 2nd round of the 2009 Draft out of Arizona State and made his professional debut last August, appearing in 29 games for short-season Class A Mahoning Valley. In 54 games with Kinston he hit .300 with 6 HR, 31 RBI and a .865 OPS.
Phelps batted .296 with 2 HR, 23 RBI, and a .743 OPS in 53 games with Akron. He is a 23-year-old Stanford product and was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 3rd round of the 2008 Draft.

Indians Prospect Insider: Phelps To Columbus, Kipnis To Akron
id like to see Phelps get some work done in AAA and earn a promotion to the majors so we can get rid of fucking Anderson Hernandez

Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports that the Indians will call up catching prospect Carlos Santana prior to Friday's game against the Nationals.
Santana is perhaps the best of the MLB-ready prospects not already in the majors, but the Indians indicated just last week that he was unlikely to be called up any time soon. Acquired from the Dodgers in the mid-2008 deal for Casey Blake, the 24-year-old switch-hitter is batting .307/.440/.568 with 12 homers and more walks than strikeouts in 56 games at Triple-A. His arrival could mean a demotion to Triple-A for Lou Marson given that the Indians would likely want to keep veteran Mike Redmond around in a backup role.
I would certainly hope so and if there are any more even close might as well give them a shot also.Santana is perhaps the best of the MLB-ready prospects not already in the majors, but the Indians indicated just last week that he was unlikely to be called up any time soon.
I know someone will explain it better but I think the latter has something to do with the number of options and payroll.smitty03;1715290; said:I must admit I have not watched a whole lot of the Indians this season, but I have been keeping track of them. I may actually watch them now that they have young guys like Donald, Crowe, and Santana playing. Hopefully LaPorta works out his swing in Columbus and can be re-called after the All-Star Break. I never understood why clubs like the Indians do not call up their young talent sooner. At least the young guys can give the fans something to watch.
The Cleveland Indians today announced they have recalled catcher Carlos Santana from the AAA Columbus Clippers. To allow room on the 25-man roster for Santana, the Indians optioned catcher Lou Marson to AAA Columbus.
The Indians will sell a great deal of tickets because of Stasburg and some Santana and it will rain like hell in Cleveland on Sunday... curse of Rocky Colavito.buckeyemania11;1715396; said:something to watch for finally
nice publicity move, Stasburg vs Santana on Sunday

Donald and Crowe are pretty mediocre across the board. They just look a little better because of the garbage surrounding them. Both, on a real mlb team, are backups. Hermann has looked good.Bucklion;1715418; said:Donald and Hermann haven't been too bad, and Crowe has had his moments. I am optimistic about the kids...I hope they can translate it to the Bigs instead of being 4A guys like LaPorta.
