it's also being rumored that Farrell isn't a candidate because he has some clause in his boston contract that restricts him from pursuing a managerial position until after the 2010 season.

If the Indians fire Eric Wedge, Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell will not be their next manager.

Farrell's contract says that he cannot accept an outside managerial position until after the 2010 season, according to major-league sources.

The Indians have yet to make a decision on Wedge, their manager since 2003. Many in the industry, however, expect Wedge to be dismissed at the end of the season.

Farrell, 47, was the Indians' farm director from Nov. 2001 through the end of the 2006 season and also was a pitcher with the team from 1987 to 1990. He was expected to be a leading possibiity for the Indians' position if the team replaced Wedge.

The exact length and complete terms of Farrell's contract are not known, but he likely gave up his right to manage before 2011 in exchange for a like show of commitment by the Red Sox. Rival teams repeatedly have asked for permission to interview Farrell, sources said.

Indians general manager Mark. Shapiro has said in the past that Farrell could succeed in any position of responsibility, from pitching coach to manager to GM.

tony lovullo, AAA coach. that's my guess.

Agreed.

Buster Olney reporting that Farrell may still be a candidate despite his contract clause. He says the Red Sox may let him out of the contract to pursue other jobs like they were apparently prepared to do last year for the Pirates job.

We'll see.

Have heard Tim Bogar and Buddy fucking Bell as well. Buddy Bell? Good God, lets hope it doesn't come to that...
