Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

Not a surprise but Reyes is done for the year

CastroTurf

Lots of injury updates for you, courtesy of head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff. The big news is that not only is Anthony Reyes having the ulnar nerve transposition surgery recommended by the Indians, but he might also mix in a little Tommy John, for good measure. Dr. Lewis Yocum will perform the transposition on Friday and, if he discovers the ligament needs to be replaced, he'll perform the Tommy John. If Reyes just has the transposition, he'll miss four to six months. If he has the Tommy John, he'll be a year away from being ready to pitch in the big leagues. Either way, his '09 season is over.

I guess it probably doesn't matter which surgery he has because his arm has gone through so much is career baseball career is probably over and he should probably have the surgery which will get them back to a normal lifestyle.

Editorial note: The Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians should just buy the Cleveland Clinic then bring in the best surgeons from around the United States to take care of their players.

this team is not consistent in any capacity, whether it be starting pitching (outside of Lee and to a lesser extent, pavano), bullpen, or offensively.

Tom Hamilton was on The Fan here 2 days ago and he summerized it quite well. He said the team has no consistency in any facet of its game. They score 8 runs one night then get blanked the next. Their approach at the plate is terrible and leads to these boom or bust offensive outputs.

The Indians, with the exception of 2007 have underachieved based on their pythagorain score every single season. When that continually happens it generally has to do with your talent, and your manager.

Quite frankly, the best thing that can happen at this point is for the Indians to totally tank and there be a massive housecleaning.
The problem now is that we cannot have a major housecleaning when most of the players are on the DL. Perhaps we should leave anyway to we fall farther back in the standings and just start trading the players who are not on the DL now before they are on the DL. Trade Victor and DeRosa now and maybe even Pavano if we can get anything for him. He is bound to go armless before the end of the season.

there isn't anybody on the DL that is legit trade bait right now. so, they could still clean house if they so wanted. the major trade chips are Derosa, Victor, Cliff Lee, possibly Pavano, and maybe Wood.

i think Betancourt is also a guy who could be traded (if he gets healthy). i believe he is in the last year of his deal and there are always some teams looking for relievers around the deadline.

Absolutely agreed. And I can say this for certain...if Wedge is managing this team next year, I ain't watching. I don't really see how, barring any miracles, he can survive this season, but if he does, I'm done.

Good series win by the Tribe considering neither Lee nor Pavano pitched well. Of course it helped that KC played terribly defensively. Solid start by Sowers tonight. The kid can't seem to go past 5 but at this point I'll take a 5 inning 2 earned run performance. Also, he did a nice job to limit the damage in the 5th.

For some reason, this team seems to be able to get to Greinke, but throw Gil fuckin' Meche on the mound and they're swinging toothpicks.

So, I hear that the Indians had another incident with the local wildlife tonight. The game winning hit apparently hit a sea gull in the outfield. Was the run coming in even if it didn't hit the bird?
There would've been a play at the plate, but the run probably scores. Crisp doesnt have a cannon and Derosa (99.9% sure it was Derosa) isnt Rickey Henderson but moves well enough to score IMO.

Yeah, just found a video and I agree. Still kind of humorous. It was DeRosa btw.

Meche is not a bad pitcher, the one that baffles me is the struggles with Brian Bannister.
Meche is pretty average, when you add in his numbers vz. the Indians, he looks much better. But yeah, Brian Bannister...well, almost pitcher with an ERA north of 5.50 seems to baffle this team.
