Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

1. if wedge had any idea what he was doing, 2 of those runs never happen. garko in LF and Derosa at 1st both cost cleveland a run.

2. huff got to 2 strikes on guys several times and lost them, or had to groove one because he tried to nibble too much. that's fausto carmona syndrome right there. hopefully he learns from it.

3. the cleveland indians always find ways to lose games. whether their starters get rocked and they make a comeback just to fall short, or they get a rare good pitching performance from start to finish and their offense tanks, or their bullpen implodes and squanders a lead. take your choice.

4. there is no way conceivable that wedge should have a job after this season. i've given him the benefit of the doubt for long enough.

No one has ever accused him of knowing what he's doing. Even in the years that the Tribe has done well, Wedge's mistakes during the season ending up costing them down the road. If they're still playing like this in late-June and into July, there's no reason for him to not be gone.

He has a 1B playing the OF and a guy who is a decent enough OF playing 1B. Not to mention, Ben Francisco, who is 4-5 with 2 HR career (coming in, now 6-7 with 4 HR) vs. Sonnenstein batting ninth. Any manager with half a brain plays the percentages, but not Wedgie.

I don't think that Wedge will make it through this season if the team does not improve because things are already getting pretty hot for him and if the team continues to struggle things will just get hotter and they will have to let him go to save any attendance that they might still be getting in July to the end of the season. I would think by the All-Star break he would be gone if not sooner.

Hargrove's name will get some play but I don't think I want him back. They need to bring in someone from outside the organization. Perhaps Mike Brown since he is the only one who has brought Cleveland a winner, I hope, in the past 45 years.

This has to be the worst umpiring crew I've seen in MLB in a long time. It took them half an hour to figure out that if a team fails to list a DH in their starting line up they forfeit the option. Then none of them see the ball bounce off the wall behind Crawford, and call the batter out. They have allowed things to get out of hand...and now they make a terrible appeal call.

It's too bad umps can't be sent down to the minors, because these guys need to go back to AAA.

wonder what kind of options will be available come the off-season in regards to a new manager??

Wedge's days are likely over this year but unless the Tribe finds some pitching the ghost of Casey Stengel won't win with this bunch.

this is where wedge needs to just write a check to MLB so he can go off on the crew after the game. this crew was terrible in 3 out of the 4 games this series. it's pathetic.

I was thinking the exact same thing, I know that is hard to believe, when I read about it actually Cleveland.com this morning. I thought why in the hell didn't Wedge get thrown out of the game arguing a terrible call like that and if you didn't get thrown out of the game he should have gone off on the crew after the game. Maybe he was afraid he would get suspended for a few games. Now, that might be nice but I don't know if I even want any of our coaching staff managing this team.

Am I the only one still hoping this team has a 10-game winning streak in it?

I hate to give up on a season before June.
I had that hope for about 5 innings the other day. They were up 7-0, had won 3 of 4, and been playing decent for the week.

Then reality hit.
