Aaron Laffey is quietly having a great season. 6-3 on a terrible team, with a 3.25 ERA.

Yes he has. Pretty excited for him.majorpayne27;1514496; said:Aaron Laffey is quietly having a great season. 6-3 on a terrible team, with a 3.25 ERA.
OK, so the people on scout are saying that Dolan seemed pretty insistent on "evaluating" Wedge at the end of the season, though he confirmed Shapiro will continue to be the GM.AuburnBuckeye;1513559; said:For those of you Tribe fans who are interested (and have STO), Indians owner Paul Dolan will be on All Bets are Off with Bruce Drennan at around 3:45 tomorrow.
This should come as no surprise. I think we pretty much all called this back in April/May.OHSportsFan9;1514493; said:Dammit. I hate how well this team plays in August. 10 of 13.
Shit.
Pretty much what I expected...and I'm sure the rest of you did too. The guy was insane in July: .385 AVG (30-78), 20 R, 11 2B, 0 3B, 9 HR, 24 RBI, 9 BB, 13 K, .448 OBP, .872 SLG. Sadly, he just can't hit ML pitching. At least CoCo didn't become an all-star in Boston or that trade could've been really embarrassing. I think he's just keeping the position warm until LaPorta is ready in a couple weeks. Or at least I hope.buckeyemania11;1514591; said:Andy "0 for" Marte

Carrasco with a very nice outing for C-bus last night: 8 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 10 K
It certainly looks better than just a couple weeks ago, but there's still a lot of question marks there. I'd like to see a couple more good outings from Carmona before I'm ready to rely on him for much. His control is still spotty from what I've seen. What will Westbrook be good for after 18 months away from the bigs? Laffey has had a nice year, but he's far from a sure thing. I'm still not sure Masterson isn't better off in the bullpen. Hopefully one of Sowers/Huff, etc. can hold down the five spot. There's potential to have a passable rotation, but it could turn into another disaster just as easily. 75-80 wins would be a very good year next season IMO. But if we've learned anything the past few years, trying to forecast how this team will do is pointless. One thing's for sure, if Mongo is still in the dugout, we can expect another slow start.tsteele316;1514602; said:there is definately some hope for this team next year, and in the future. a rotation of carmona, westbrook, laffey, masterson, and one of huff/sowers/et.all might not be so bad. if cleveland could just get raffy perez to not be a total bum, then maybe they'd have something going.
As Cleveland Indians become stagnant, Wedge becomes more vulnerable

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Lost in all the discussion of the Indians trades and the Dolans' millions of losses is the fact the front office is finally admitting something the fans have sensed for a while -- they aren't just a woe-is-me, small-market team, they have been underachievers in the last two seasons.
Or as team president Paul Dolan said, "We have not been successful the last few years with a team that should be successful."
Dolan is absolutely right about that.
Yes, the front office has had some swings and misses in deals. Yes, some veteran players have been traded to cut payroll. But did anyone expect the Indians to have the worst record in the American League, as was the case until a month ago?

At least the BP should be better. It certainly can't be any worse than what we were subjected to most of this season.
While the posts of mine that you quoted, which I've done with a little bit of tongue-in-cheek, regarding signing all of the young pitchers to long-term deals immediately I disagree with you in that I don't think they should put Laffey in middle relief because we are so short of starting pitching and he brings something to the table that Huff and Sowers do not bring. He can put a little more on his fastball than either of those guys. They have finally shut down Westbrook for this season and I have no idea why they were even trying to think of bringing him back this year when we will need him next year if we want to do anything. I know that we have not seen enough of Rondon but if he lives up to is expectations I would like to see him get a shot at starting. I guess we shall see what he brings to the table come September. I think they are going to have to go out and either buy or trade for some fourth/fifth starter and hopefully the guys mentioned above, along with Masterson, will give us a good rotation next season.NFBuck;1514332; said:Carmona just signed a long term deal last year, then promptly fell apart. I'm waiting to see a few good outings in a row from him. I like Laffey, but I think he'd be best utilized in middle relief. Huff...meh. I see another Sowers in him. Sowers will never be more than a #5 starter, despite a couple of good starts the past few weeks and also might be better suited fr bullpen work. I am excited about Rondon. Todd and Perez look promising, but Sipp needs to get his control together.
