Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

In a way, I was hoping that they might keep him around because if he stayed healthy he might be worth 10-15 games next season and would be the veteran of the pitching staff. They must really think that those young arms are going to continue to come through at some of the new arms are going to help out next year or it will be a major catastrophe.

pavano was only on a one year deal with no team options, so he wasn't getting resigned anyway.

There's no point in keeping a guy like Pavano even if he would've been signed through next year. Pavano isn't a long-term solution and the Indians aren't going to win anything next year anyway unless something truly magical happens, so what's the point in keeping him around and holding a young arm back. Yeah it sucks saying next year is over already, but once they delt Lee that's what they conceded and decided to start building for another run starting in 2011 at the earliest so you might as well get rid of guys like Pavano and get something for them. I was upset about the Lee deal at first, but really unless we won it all next year that would be the only way I could justify it being worth holding onto him and not using that chip to help replenish our farm system. I would've hated to have been left with nothing since he'd likely get more money from someone else in free agency. At least now with all these moves we have a chance to compete in a few years instead of having to rely on guys that were already in our farm system, which wouldn't have been much to look forward to. Of course, we wouldn't have to trade guys like Cliff Lee a year and a half before their contract runs out to replenish our farm system if we'd actually draft and develop some top flight prospects ourselves.

Another win. Great. Keep fucking up that draft position and save fuckface gorilla's job.

Wedge got lucky tonight

he majorly pushed his luck by throwing sowers back out for the 8th

first 2 runners get on, Perez comes in and walks the first runner he faces

and Perez and Sipp manage to allow 0 runs after the bases were loaded with no outs

Wedge wasn't managing tonight, he was attending to a death in the family.

I remember looking at my wife in the 8th and saying "Well, this guy sure manages like Wedge..."

I wouldn't worry too much about draft position, baseball is by far the biggest crap shoot when it comes to the draft of the four major sports. I think it's far more valuable that these young players learn how to win, it can only benefit us in the years to come that they get this experience now.

especially with how god awful Shaoiro drafts in the first round,,,,,,,,

2001-

#17 P Daniel Denham (Deer Valley HS, Antioch California)- spent 6 years in the Indians organization, never reached the MLB, currently with the Angels AAA team, still yet to pitch a single MLB inning- 4.57 career minor league ERA in 985 innings

#27 P Alan Horne (Marianna HS, Marianna Florida)- did not sign, went to the Univesity of Mississippi, drafted by the Yankees in the 11th round of the 2005 draft, currently with the Yankees AA club

2002-

#22 P Jeremy Guthrie (Stanford University)- 4 years in the Indians organization, only pitched 37 MLB innings with the Indians, goes on to Baltimore and has 2 decent years in 07 and 08, struggling this year however

2003-

#11 1B Michael Aubrey (Tulane University)- 5 years in the Indians organization, a measley 45 MLB at bats, traded to Baltimore this year where he currently is on the AAA roster

#18 OF Brad Snyder (Ball State University)- 5 years in the Indians organization, never reached the MLB, currently in AAA with the Cubs organization

2004-

#6 P Jeremy Sowers (Vanderbilt University)- 15-26 with a 5.10 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 347.1 MLB innings, hardly living up to the top 10 draft status

2005-

#14 OF Trevor Crowe (Arizona University)- reached the MLB for the first time this season, .225 6 Doubles a Triple and 8 RBIs in 89 ABs, small sample size so his status as bust or not is still up in the air

2006-

#39 (Sandwhich Round) P David Huff (UCLA)- 5-6 with a 6.81 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 80.2 innings so far in his first MLB stint, has been wildly inconsistent

2007-

#13 1B Beau Mills (Lewis-Clarke State College)- .277 with 37 HRs and 191 RBIs in 1,139 Minor League At Bats, currently with AA Akron, mixed reviews on how he may turn out

2008-

#29 3B Lonnie Chisenhall (Pitt Community College)- .282 with 23 HR and 122 RBI in 657 Minor League at bats, currently with class A+ Kinston, looks promising.....

Agreed somewhat, but if the winning saves Wedge's job, this organization is fucked until he's gone. He's like a bull in a china shop around young players.

As for the drafting, I'm hoping Shapiro turns over the GM duties this winter (as rumored for a while now) which, in turn, leads to some better drafting.
