Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

Sizemore needs to be placed on the DL for the rest of the season

hes clearly hurting and there is no need for him since they are already in the shitter, theres no reason to risk furthur injury
It needs to happen sooner or later. The guy is a shell of what we've seen the past four years. I don't see how much longer they can keep playing him floundering like this. I fully expect him to be shut down and LaPorta and/or Brantley up in a few weeks.

I guess the holdup on LaPorta is that he's going to get some time at 1B in AAA. They see him as a "known quantity" Re: next years roster (in a general sense), whereas Marte and Giminez are not. That's why I assume he's still down there and they're getting at bats. I think Giminez projects as a valuable utility guy. He's as versatile as anybody in the system, but question is, can he hit ML pitching? The results are very iffy so far. He has plenty of time left though and sitting Marte (who doesn't) the night after an 0-6 flop does nothing. May as well see how he handles that. He should be playing pretty much everyday to see what he's got, but something tells me Wedge won't do that because he's still trying to save his damn job somehow.

If the Indians hadn't bailed out the Phillies by handing them Cy Lee, they might've caved and taken the Jays deal.

I hate to keep dragging this along, but the opinions being thrown around in here are driving me insane. It's like some people are biased against the Indians while rooting for them. Are you really this fucking dense? :shake:

Just because a good player is traded for prospects doesn't mean that one team bailed the other out. The Indians didn't get a bag of baseballs in the deal.

ESPN had the Indians as a trade deadline winner.

No team is going to trade 2/3+ of their best prospects in one trade. The Halladay deal wouldn't have happened.

ESPN is always correct..............

I dont see how you can get expect fans to get excited about a guy like Carrassco who has an over 5 ERA in AAA or a guy like Donald who is hitting .230 in AAA

I wouldn't be so down on Carrasco based on his AAA ERA. Minor league ERA's are not a good measuring stick...particularly as pitchers get closer to the ML level. Many of today's best pitchers had less than impressive ERA's at various minor league stops. A lot of times as kids get to AAA, coaches tinker with their mechanics, add new pitches and work with their approach to batters. He has good peripherals, has #2 stuff with a fastball that touches the mid nineties and a nasty changeup with movement. If he's developed, he'll be a very good pitcher in Cleveland.

Donald, meh, he's a throw in who will probably be a utility guy...but those are good to have.

Knapp is worth getting excited about and Marson will be a player.

Add that on top of getting Masterson, who will at least sure up the BP or possibly become a solid starter and Hagadone (who I think will be the best of all of them), and they did well for themselves.

That's two, mayeb three, guys that will be in the rotation soon (Carrasco, Masterson and Hagadone) with another guy who could be a big time prospect over the next couple years (Knapp).

They're building to compete again in 2012 and they got the pieces to have a very good rotation. With the dearth of pitching in this organization, these were the right moves. Rondon-Carrasco-Hagadone-Masterson could be the makings of a nice rotation down the road.

Wasn't saying that ESPN is the most trusted sports expert or anything, but they actually do have a couple good analysts. What incentive do they have for saying that the Indians are winners? Absolutely none. If we lost these trades as bad as a few people in here think, we wouldn't be on that list. Were the Indians winners? Maybe not. They lost Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez. Were they losers? Maybe. We'll see in a couple years. That's kind of the point.

The Indians got some young talent in every trade. The people who think we traded away our players for nothing really don't have a clue. Not saying the trades were awesome (for the 2491324th time), but saying that the Indians bailed the Phillies out? Come the fuck on. Building for the future =/= bailing other teams out.

/waits for the LOL WE COULD'VE GOT THE PLAYERS THE JAYS WANTED FOR HALLADAY!!!!!!!!

No we couldn't have. It's why we didn't get them. :shake: What we got > what we'd get in the offseason or next year > nothing. What we did was best for the future.

Building for the future

im not really convinced that this management has any clue what the fuck they are doing, some of the moves theyve made over the past months have just puzzled me

it seems logical that your supposed top prospect would be up and playing in this situation

yet they are carrying 3 catcher types and letting mr 0 for Andy Marte play 1B while LaPorta is still in AAA

im not saying these trades are terrible, we wont know the result of them for a few years, just saying that its hard to get excited about them

That I agree with..

I'm not really excited about them. It's hard to get excited about something that won't be seen until a couple years down the road, maybe. But I'm not on the verge of committing suicide because of the trades. I think they're fair enough. Could've been a whole lot worse.

:slappy: yea like Meloan for Winston Abreu

now THAT was pure comedy

a 24 year old prospect for a 32 year old career minor leaguer, even though Meloan has had his struggles hes still young and Abreu is a freaking career minor league bum

and now they axe Abreu just a few weeks later, which makes it even more hilarious

LaPorta is getting time at 1B in AAA since he may be an option there next season...I actually understand that. If he's not up in a couple weeks, however, I'll be pissed. Get him up by the end of August and let him play FULLTIME for the last 30 games or so.

But yeah, it's hard to get excited about something when the payoff is still unknown. I can say that I feel better about the direction than I did a couple weeks ago. They've stocked the system with some pretty good prospects. Before the C.C. trade last year, this was a poor farm system. Now it's one of the better ones. It's pretty stocked top to bottom and that bodes well for the future. The key will be getting rid of Mr. Potatohead so he doesn't fuck 'em all up when they reach the bigs.

I have to say though, I'm gonna miss Abreu...dude was always good for some belly laughs. That was definately an assinine move. Maloan may not have been a top shelf prospect, but Abreu never showed the smallest sign that he was a capable ML pitcher.

Now for some dreaming, how's this look for a potential lineup in 2011/2012:

1B- Matt LaPorta
2B- Luis Valbuena
SS- Asdrubal Cabrera
3B- Lonnie Chisenhall
LF- Nick Weglarz
CF- Grady Sizemore
RF- Shin Soo Choo
C- Carlos Santana
DH- Beau Mills

Bench/Possible Starters: Donald (INF), J. Brown (1B), Marson (C), Brantley (OF), C. Rivero (SS), A. Abreu (3B)

??: Peralta/Pronk/Crowe/Hodges/Giminez

Rotation (pick 5):
Rondon
Carrasco
Hagadone
De La Cruz
Carmona
T.J. House
Knapp
Huff
J. Gomez
A. Perez

Bullpen:
CL-Todd
C. Perez
Masterson
Price
Laffey
Sipp

If these kids develop, that could be a nice young team. This is a very deep farm system and with the abundance of prospects at some positions, trades will be possible down the line to compliment the homegrown kids.

Interested in some thoughts on that...

You hate to keep having the discussion, but yet you bring it up when it was dead. And I find it difficult to grant any credibility to whatever argument this is when you resort to personal attacks and relying on ESPN.

Christ, if this were recruiting and you relied on ESPN, you'd get [censored]ing crucified.

EDIT: In the end, your argument can be broken down to this: In Shapiro You Trust. Good luck with that.

Indians beat the Tigers 11-1. Good outing by Pavano and the Tribe wins the series.

I hate the Tigers, so it was a good series. On the list of teams I want to see fail this coming fall , the order is as follows:

1. Yankees
2. Red Sox
3. Tigers
4. White Sox
5. Cubs
6. Angels and Dodgers
7. Phillies

Not that there's much left for cheer for after that, but I'll be cheering (now that we're toast) for the Cardinals and Twins to take those teams down.

You call that a personal attack?

Respond to my points. I did not rely on ESPN. I addressed that. Read my post. Get your head out of your ass. Where's your argument? You don't even have one.

I wouldn't mind seeing the BoSox or Phillies get to the Series now because of V-Mart and Cliff. Still, if not us I wouldn't mind seeing the BrewCrew make the series every year.
I hope V-Mart does well, but rooting for the Red Sox is just crazy talk.
