Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

Maybe they got that other catcher for an upcoming trade of Victor.. that young catcher had some MLB action last year and I'm pretty sure was on the Phillies' postseason roster, so he's probably close to being ready. Maybe ready now?

Hopefully since they shipped Franciscos ass off, LaPorta comes up and they ACTUALLY PLAY HIM instead of sitting him on the bench like last time

If that doesn't happen, consider my mind boggled. That would seem to be a major reason for including Francisco in that deal. The season is over, see what the kid can do. And yes, he better be playing pretty much everyday.

I'm not sure why they're keeping Santana in Akron. He should be in C-Bus by now.

All's quiet on that front right now, but I fully expect Victor to be shipped. I also predict, no matter the return, people will say the Tribe got fleeced.

Bottom line, I love Victor, but his offense for a 1B is not great. If they can get a couple good prospects for him, they should do it.

Is Victor primarily playing 1B now? I haven't watched this fucking team for months. I think I watched a couple games at the beginning of the year and decided I didn't want to be frustrated by baseball. I've watched more Clippers games than Indians games and the Clippers aren't even on TV.

I know he started great. Noticed that his average is down around .285 now..

He's primarily a 1B now, with an occasional start still behind the plate. I think for his health and to extend his career he remains at 1B. With Santana and now the new kid, that was obviously his future in Cleveland. He's been pretty bad after a fast start, .174-0-7 in July (.213-7-28 since late May), and I think where he's leveled off to is about the production you can expect from him from here on out.

I wonder who gets Lee's roster spot

since its being reported that Carrasco Donald and Marson will all report to Columbus

Carmona back in the rotation? hes pitched well in the minors and seems to have his control somewhat back in check

He's looked pretty damn good when I've seen him in Columbus. Seen him twice. Going to have to go check out the new guys.

looking at the current 40 man roster

the choices are

Fausto Carmona
Zach Jackson
Jensen Lewis
Rafael Perez
Hector Rondon
Rich Rundles
Jess Todd

I doubt they bring up another reliever, unless they settle on starting Tomo Ohka (lol)

so its either Carmona Jackson or Rondon

One thing I've noticed is that a lot of people are using preseason prospect rankings and hype to judge this trade. The fact is those rankings are no longer valid as a lot has changed since they were issued. Carrasco, Donald and Marson have all seen their stock drop due to performance. I think Knapp's value should also be lower due to injury questions. The Indians could have bought low on these guys but instead overpaid.

The other issue I have is that Donald & Marson do not really fit organizational needs. I would have preferred them to get one good prospect at a position of need as opposed to two mediocre ones.

Also, I see know reason why Francisco needed to be included, Lee was
more than enough for this package. I know Francisco's not great and people don't like him but he has value as a 4th OF and could have been used in a separate deal for a young arm.

This is the worst trade I can remember any of the teams I follow making. They should have played hardball like the Jays. Considering the dramatic difference in salary owed, Lee's value should have been similar to that of Halladay's. Instead he was valued at yard sale prices.

Wow, that's a lot of hyperbole. Bottom line, and most of the experts agree, that was about the value for Cliff Lee. And saying he's anywhere in Halladay's league (adjusted for salary or not) is waaaaaaaay off base. Strangely enough though, that is very similar, apparently, to the package they were offering for Halladay...minus the one pitcher.

Obviously, many aren't gonna like this trade, but those that are saying they could have gotten much more just haven't been paying attention to the trade market this summer.

Are there newer rankings to use?

The trade was made based on potential. Value is a bit lower based on performance, yes, but three of them have very good potential. That's what it's about here. I don't buy the statement that they could've "bought low." I'm not even sure what that means. The Phillies weren't going to give these guys up for something that could be considered "low." They got a freakin' Cy Young award winner for them.

This was obviously the best offer they had for Lee.

This is the worst trade I can remember any of the teams I follow making.

Come on.

Francisco would had gotten nothing more than a minor league filler arm......... certainly not anyone of much value
