Indians Tidbits (2008 season)

In a few weeks maybe they will call up the entire Bisons or Aeros roster. That way we can see what we have for the future.

It really doesn't bother me that they lost to Zito. He is a quality pitcher and has some quality stuff. Maybe he is just starting to come around after a poor start. I would not mind seeing him in a Indians uniform.:)

if you want to see zito in a indians uniform, just watch sowers pitch. they are basically identical, soft tossing lefties with era's in the 6.0 range. zito is a bum, plain and simple, and in typical indian fashion, they made him look impressive.

Holy shit, a 1-2-3 inning from JoeBo! Has that ever happened before?

Cliff Lee goes to 11-1 and continues to look like a potential Cy Young award winner. Too bad it's all wasted on an absolutely wretched team. I wonder if he could be part of a firesale. He has a trade friendly contract and could likely net a couple decent prospects from a contender. You don't hear him mentioned much, but if you're gonna burn this motherfucker down, you may as well go all out.

sorry but that is totally false. Zito has lost 5 mph on his fastball and is only around 85 now. He has no control of his curve and the loss of velocity killed his change-up. Zito doesn't have big league stuff anymore, period. That extension is killing the Giants and if the Indians would take that contract there is little doubt the Giants could make your wish come true...:wink2:

I 100% agree b/c you know the guy is going .500 or worse next year.

But that is where fans have intuition and GM's don't recognize value if it hits them in the ass.

Dominating Lee cuts Giants down to size
Left-hander strikes out career-high 11 in eight innings for 11th win, stops losing streak

CLEVELAND: When Cliff Lee pitches, it's all about Cliff Lee.
Indians fans cannot help but be transfixed by his presence this season. He has become one of the top starters in the American League, and keep in mind when the Tribe broke camp he was No. 5 in the rotation's pecking order.
But he continues to dazzle and confound opposing batters. With the Tribe having lost three in a row going into Thursday night's finale against the San Francisco Giants, Lee made certain his team would not get swept, leading the way in a 4-1 win at Progressive Field.
It was Lee (11-1, 2.34 ERA) delivering eight dominating innings, giving up four hits and one walk, and striking out 11. He struck out the side in the second inning and in the seventh, after allowing a leadoff single.

In last place, Tribe faces uphill battle
First half disastrous, but strong second half could bring contention

CLEVELAND: Paul Byrd didn't realize the Indians were in last place when he left Progressive Field on Wednesday night.
And at this stage of the season, the team's place in the standings, while disturbing, isn't a reason for Byrd to behave differently on the field or alter his thinking.
''I knew we were slipping down near the bottom or the middle reaches of the division,'' Byrd said Thursday. ''We don't want to be last, and we don't take being last lightly. We've had a tough first half, and we have to have a great second half.''

Hip feeling better,Carmona resumes...

Hip feeling better,
Carmona resumes
throwing program
CLEVELAND: The pain in Fausto Carmona's hip has disappeared, allowing him to restart his throwing program.
''Fausto will play catch tomorrow,'' manager Eric Wedge said. ''He will have to go through some of [what he already had completed] that again, but he won't start from ground zero.''
When the hip flared up again, Carmona was on the verge of going on a rehab assignment.

Francisco's arm, bat coming up big for Tribe

Tony Dejak/Associated PressBen Francisco scores the Indians' third run of Thursday night's game against the Giants, sliding past Bengie Molina. Francisco scored on Jhonny Peralta's two-run double.

Bengie Molina should have known better. The Giants' speed-challenged catcher should have been satisfied with a single to left in the third inning Wednesday against the Indians. Instead, Molina opted to try for two, which meant challenging Ben Francisco.
In what amounted to finding sand in a sandbox, Francisco erased Molina with a strike to Jamey Carroll for the third out.

Great news about Carmona...hopefully nothing else pops up. I'm really starting to enjoy watch Jamey Carroll play. If we can keep him at 2B, and move Asdrubal over to SS that'd be great. If in fact it's a comfortability issue with him playing 2B in the big leagues but can produce big numbers in AAA at SS, then it's time to put him there and get rid of the sure strikeout or home run Jhonny Peralta.

Don't expect Cabrerra back real soon. My guess is that he's gonna be in Buffalo a few days MORE than he had days of ML service last season (does anybody know if post season play counts toward that under the CBA?). That way the Tribe will gain an extra year of control before he's arbitration/free agent eligible. $$$$, as usual!

He won't be down there in AAA that long if he's playing THAT well. I agree he won't come up within the next few days or week, but I think we'll see him earlier than what you are predicting. Especially if we start trading some of these bums

Actually, if the season is tanked and the trades start, there are fewer baseball reasons (and more economic reasons) to regain the extra year of control over Cabrerra. If the team gets back into contention, however, there's a need for him at the ML level. No matter how well he does at Buffalo, Cabrerra is NOT really in control of his short term future. Baseball economics will prevail over the fans' desire to see him back in Cleveland right away.

The Reds' Ken Griffey Jr. tosses aside his batting helmet after striking out against the Indians' C.C. Sabathia in the eighth.

CLEVELAND -- Indians fans got a glimpse of the young C.C. Sabathia last night: a rookie with a 96 mph fastball, unusual poise and the hint of a very good breaking ball and change-up. There is room for much improvement, but the raw materials are impressive.
Cincinnati Reds fans got a glimpse of what a veteran Daryl Thompson might look like: an ace, in control of his emotions and his full repertoire of pitches. Good offenses wilt against him; struggling offenses have no chance.
Sabathia, now fully formed as the ace, dominated the Reds for eight innings to deliver the Indians a 6-0 win. He is locked into Cy Young Award form once again, and the Reds posed only a mild challenge.
