Offense helps out Sabathia
C.C.'s stellar start, 11 hits by Tribe lead to shutout victory over Reds

CLEVELAND: And the hits just keep on comin'.
Multiple choice: The above phrase refers to: (a) Mariah Carey's career, (b) Most of the ''guests'' on the Jerry Springer Show, (c) Shawn Chacon's first and last visit with his next general manager.
It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the Indians' offense. At least most of the time. But Friday night at Progressive Field, the Tribe unleashed an 11-hit attack to vanquish the Cincinnati Reds 6-0.
C.C. Sabathia also had a lot to do with the win, but so seldom do the hitters make it easy for any of the Indians' starters, the focus automatically shifts to them when they do.
But giving credit to Sabathia, manager Eric Wedge said: ''C.C. was fantastic tonight. From the first pitch to his final pitch in the eighth, he was in control the whole way.''

Brynne Shaw/The Plain DealerWith 11 strikeouts in eight innings Friday night, C.C. Sabathia posted his third consecutive game with double-digit whiffs. Grady Sizemore's 3 RBI sealed the Indians' 6-0 victory over the Reds at Progressive Field.
The C.C. Sabathia Trade Bait Tour stopped back in Cleveland on Friday night. All those who scouted in person or watched via satellite should have been satisfied, once again. Sabathia allowed four hits -- all singles -- in eight innings and struck out 11 as the Indians defeated the Reds, 6-0, in front of 34,844 in Progressive Field.
Leadoff man Grady Sizemore homered, doubled and drove in three as the Indians won their second straight. They remain 7 1/2 back in the AL Central as they toppled the last-place Reds for the first time in four tries this season.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Fausto Carmona out until after All-Star break
Saturday, June 28, 2008 Dennis Manoloff
Plain Dealer Reporter
Right-hander Fausto Carmona likely will not return to the Indians until soon after the All-Star break, Indians manager Eric Wedge said Friday before the Indians played the Reds.
Carmona, on the disabled list since May 24 because of a left-hip strain, was supposed to be on a rehab assignment by last week, but a setback postponed it.
Early Friday afternoon, Carmona made two sets of 30 throws from 60 feet and ran sprints in left field. He moved reasonably well.

Each time Byrd takes the mound, any potential trade value he has takes a bigger hit. His reportoir seems to consist of mid-80's fastball over the plate and changeup over the plate.
Enjoy C.C.'s last few starts as an Indian, he's been a good one here.
Who throws tomorrow? Laffey? If so, we may be able to pull that one out if anybody decides to show up and hit.
Fuck.buckeyemania11;1194810; said:yes Laffey throws tommorow
BUT
Arroyo and his 6.52 ERA is on the mound for the reds
and we know that the offense gets mowed down by anyone with a 5.5+ ERA

Byrd gives up four runs when Cincinnati's Bako empties bases in fourth

CLEVELAND: Only three times this month have the Indians won when their starting pitcher gave up more than three runs.
Saturday night wasn't one of those games. When Paul Byrd was nicked for four runs in six innings, you knew the vast majority of the 39,506 fans at Progressive Field would leave with heavy hearts in addition to lighter wallets.
The Reds dished out a 5-0 whipping behind rookie starter Johnny Cueto, one of the brighter pitching prospects in the National League, and four relievers.
''We had some chances and let them slip away,'' manager Eric Wedge said. ''We didn't do a particularly good job against their pitcher.''

Indians chatter
Sunday, June 29, 2008
Clubhouse confidential: The Indians have scouted Philadelphia Phillies
veteran right-hander Freddy Garcia and were involved in the bidding until recently. Garcia, with a career record of 117-76, made 11 starts for the Phillies last year before undergoing season-ending surgery on his right shoulder.
The Tribe liked the way Garcia threw and felt he was close to being major-league ready, but they backed off when his agents asked for too much money. The Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox also were interested. The Tigers reportedly are the favorite.
Garcia spent the bulk of his career with the White Sox before being traded to the Phillies before last season.
Big advantage: The American League entered Saturday's action leading the National League in interleague play, 135-88. The Indians had not helped much. They were 6-10 entering Saturday night's game against the Reds.
Stat of the day: Entering Saturday night, left-handed hitters were 0-for- 18 with 10 strikeouts against Cliff Lee, C.C. Sabathia and the Tribe bullpen in the past two games. Cincinnati's lefties were 0-for-15 with nine strikeouts Friday against Sabathia and reliever Masa Kobayashi.
