Indians Tidbits (2008 season)

Just thought of something... alot of closers come from the starting pitching ranks. While Miller would be a good choice sending him on the Chamberlain/Papelbon route, he has just been injured too much in the past few years to risk that at this time.

So then you think Sowers or Laffey but they are soft tossing pitchers not really suited for closing (in the traditional role). So then I got to thinking. How about Scott Elarton??? Kinda like Jose Mesa where an old starter trying to regain life back into the majors.

Just a thought that popped into my head. But then again here is to hopping Betancourt can turn into a dominate closer.
On the flipside, a lot of young closers have been starters early in their careers and after an injury have become closers. Why did you have to bring up Jos?. I don't think I want Scott E come even close to being a closer. I don't think he has nasty enough stuff and Sowers has not done very well so far at Buffalo.

Anyone know why Byrd was taken out after only 6 innings and 78 pitches (according to cbssportsline.com)? He was doing great.

Julio comes on and walks 2 guys real quick.

Come on bullpen, hold this lead!

Maybe they figured out that is the point where he starts to get hit hard. Now down 1 and Perez threw enough pitches that I don't know if they can get another inning out of him. This will be interesting.

I hope to God, Lewis wasn't intentionally trying to hit Manny. You don't send "message" pitches with 1 out in a tied 3-3 game unless you're in the NL and the pitcher is coming to bat. It almost just cost us the game.

Knowing Wedge's baseball IQ, it probably was intentional though.

Some good luck with that DP.

Let's hope he would be smarter than that. I don't think it had anything to do with sending a message, because on the replay I saw Victor ask Manny if he was alright. Definitely wouldn't do that if it was intentional.

Not the best time for it to happen, but a pitch up and in to Manny's ribs is always a welcomed sight, as far as I'm concerned.

Edit: And yes, Wedge may have called for it, considering he couldn't manage his way out of a nut sack

Eh, he made up for it. Substituting Michaels for Dellucci was a stroke of genius.

The best part about all of this, is that not only do we continue to play these douchebags who couldn't hit there way out of a paper bag, we generally get to see them in the #2 or #3 hole.

It's as if Eric Wedge and management are giving Clevelanders a big FU. Not only will they continue to play Dellucci and Michaels, they will put them in key spots in the batting order.

Apparently Casey and Franklin would be extremely offended if you took them out of the #9 and #8 slots.
