Indians Tidbits (2008 season)

well thats 8 losses in a row

I wonder how many they can lose in a row, 20 seems reachable for this team
I'm not even paying attention to the current joke that they're trotting out on the field. I'm too busy scouring for trade rumors that will surely just get my hopes up for an inevitable disappointment.

*edit* I see Marte started again today. Maybe they're "showcasing" him for a potential trade.:rofl::rofl:

LaPorta and Escobar would be my asking price. Fuck J.J. Hardy...he's a FA in two years. My question would be, how bad do you want it now? Sure you can go another direction, but there's nobody like C.C. out there
I have seen a blog where it is rumored that the deal is done with Milwaukee for LaPorta and 2 other prospects. I don't know if I like this deal even with LaP.... I mean the guy is only in AA. Our friend from Wisconsin talks like the Brewers are going to be able to make a run for the next 2-3 years. If I were Cleveland I would want a proven major-league player and LaPorta.

In addition to LaP they are also talking about another CF who is playing in Huntsville. Name of Brantley plus really get the third baseman Green who is only playing in A ball. I mean we have Crowe in Akron who is an outfielder and he is hitting the ball finally. All of a sudden we're going to have too many young outfielders and first baseman and no other position players. I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens.:(

We're not gonna get a proven player and LaPorta. I wouldn't want that anyway if it's Hardy, like I said, he'll be a FA in two years. Weeks was mentioned earlier in the thread, but he's a Peralta clone that plays 2B. LaPorta would most likely move up to AAA and be pretty close to ML ready next year. Same with Escobar. I think LaPorta is the centerpiece, so I'm sure any deal would include him. Their AA team is stacked with good ML prospects. Ideally, I'd want LaPorta and Escobar.

You look back at the Colon trade and he netted Lee who joined the big club fulltime 2 years later, Grady who came up fulltime 3 years later and Phillips who got a shot with the Tribe the next year but flamed out in Cleveland. Teams nowadays are a lot more stingy with their prospects, but C.C.'s trade value is higher than Colon's was IMO...especially for a team looking to make a run this season.

Brewers, Indians agree on Sabathia
By Tom Haudricourt

I just was told by a reliable club source that the Brewers have a deal in place with Cleveland for left-hander C.C. Sabathia, contingent on the paperwork being done and medical records exchanged.

But believe me, folks, that's a deal. All that other stuff is formality.

All I know so far is that top prospect Matt LaPorta is in the deal. I was told two lower-level minor leaguers also are included. The Brewers refused to include another top prospect such as Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel.

Look for Sabathia to make his debut for the Brewers Tuesday night at Miller Park against Colorado.

I'll post more details as I get them.

Way to stand your ground Shapiro. :bonk:

Oh well, at least LaPorta is apparently involved. I'm pretty excited about his potential. I'll withhold final judgement until the details come out, but I hope they got at least one other pretty damn good prospect.

I think LaPorta for a half season rental is a pretty good deal

I seriously doubt we would had resigned him.........

I'm pleased that the Crew didn't end up being required to include TWO top prospects. Like I said earlier, one high level minor league stud, and 1-2 decent prospects should be enough. After all, Sabathia will likely bolt during free agency, and you'll have LaPorta starring for you guys for 7-8 years. I do think LaPorta is the more projectible of the two top prospects. Very good eye at the plate and has major power potential w/ his college/minors production and strong build. I don't think he needs to swing overly hard to knock balls over the fence. Hit for big time average in college, A ball, and is still maintaining a pretty good average. When the Brewers originally drafted him, it was perceived as a selection for eventual trade bait (because of Prince), and one of his major selling points was he was the most major league ready of the college position players. I don't like parting with him, but you have to give something to get something. Another prospect is possibly 3B Taylor Green, who is a solid prospect. Brewerfan rates him #6 in the Brewers' system (I think he's closer to 10th). And a lower level prospect TBNL. I'm hoping it's not Lucroy or Periard. Otherwise you made a superb deal. Just because they're lower level prospects doesn't mean they're garbage, they've just proven less, and you need to wait until they can help your big club.

Maybe this is a sign of things to come, with the log jam of outfielders we have in the minors and in the majors maybe trading for LaPorta means that some other people will be getting traded......... Gute seems like a canidate to be shipped off

I expect Blake to be traded at somepoint as well, some teams are supposedly looking at him

they are saying on the Indians message board that the other 2 players are Taylor Green and Michael Brantley, not sure if its true or not though

Rumor is LaPorta, 3B Green and OF Brantly. LaPorta is the prize, Green is a pretty good prospect, but a couple years away and Brantly is supposedly their 11th best prospect. That is their 1st, 6th and 11th overall prospect. Good deal IMO.

Hopefully there is more to come. I think Byrd is untradeable at this point unfortunately. Blake should draw some interest. The Dodgers are looking for a SS and have reportedly showed interest in Peralta. C.C. was the big fish, hopefully we can swing a couple more deals for some more minor league talent. We need it...bad.

Anybody wanting a quick fix (ML ready talent) ain't gonna get it. The best bet right now is to restock the minors and rebuild from within, like we did from '02-'04. It's gonna be a few years before this team is ready to compete again, but landing LaPorta was a great place to start. Green could be our 3B a few years down the line allowing Hodges to possible move to 1B. In the OF you have LaPorta, Grady and Francisco or Trevor Crowe if he continues to develop. On the INF you have Green at 3B, somebody at SS (?), Cabrera at 2B and maybe Hodges at 1B. We'll see, but at least this is a step in the right direction.

I don't understand my Indians' friends. Just because a guy can hit in the minors' especially AA, does not mean that he can hit major-league pitching. If this guy LaP is so great why isn't he at least playing AAA. The Indians have plenty of AA and high level A players who have fairly decent batting averages. I really don't care with the Scouts say I want to see a guy hit high-caliber pitching first.

He's not at AAA because he's taking the natural progression through the system. He'll be in AAA shortly. I'm not really sure what you are expecting to get for a 3 month rental. That was a good deal. LaPorta is one of the top prospects in baseball period. I really wanted Escobar, but some people are actually higher on Green.

Like I pointed out earlier, look back to the Colon trade. It was a few years before that trade payed off. This one may come a little earlier. I think LaPorta will be MLB ready next year. Green will be a few years, but it was 3 years before Grady joined the big club full time. That's just the way these trades work.
