the pitching doesnt get any better, 4.13 is the lowest ERA any starter (who as 60+ IP) has
There is no excuse for any team's top farm club to be that barren. Bad scouting, poor development...it's inexcusable.

Ohhh no we suck again. Let's cut Shapiro's balls off!!

For those of you that don't know, that's from "The Waterboy"

I don't see us making any kind of Central contention for at least 2/3 years. I just don't see this team doing diddly squat the next few years unfortunately. After last year, I really thought this was our year.

Indians on top in 10th, then fall With one out to go, Borowski falls apart in loss to White Sox
By Sheldon Ocker
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Wednesday, Jul 02, 2008
CHICAGO: Everyone else get out of the way, because pitching is the name of the game. At least it was Tuesday night, as the Chicago White Sox beat the Indians 3-2 in 10 innings at U.S. Cellular Field.
In the opener of the series Monday night, the Sox outhit the visitors; in the second game they outpitched them. That does leave much for the Tribe to work with.
''It hurts to lose in that fashion,'' said Casey Blake, whose 10th-inning home run gave the Indians a brief lead. ''But they're having a pretty special year. It kind of reminds me of how we played last year. We always found a way to win.''
Blake homered with one out off Matt Thornton to take a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately for the Tribe, the White Sox batted last.
Indians manager Eric Wedge summoned closer Joe Borowski to protect the lead. He did for two batters ? Joe Crede grounded out, and Nick Swisher struck out ? but Alexei Ramirez hacked away at a 2-and-0 pitch and sent it sailing just over the outstretched glove of Ben Francisco in left for the tying home run.

New faces likely in bullpen Mastny, Slocum, Stevens, Lewis all may get chance to pitch in second half
By Sheldon Ocker
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Wednesday, Jul 02, 2008
CHICAGO: Unless the Indians pull out of the slide that has landed them in last place in the Central Division, several new faces probably will appear in the bullpen the second half of the season.
After a whirlwind trip from Scranton, Pa., Monday afternoon, Tom Mastny arrived in the visitors dugout at U.S. Cellular Field at the end of the third inning.
''I told him, 'You've got the fifth,' '' manager Eric Wedge said on Tuesday. ''It wasn't really rushed, but it was efficient.''
Mastny efficiently warmed up and held the Chicago White Sox to one run on three hits in three innings. He was called up from Triple-A Buffalo because Scott Elarton was placed on the restricted list to take care of a personal issue. However, that doesn't mean a way won't be found to allow Mastny to stay if he produces.
''Mastny looked pretty good,'' said Wedge without being prompted.
Mastny isn't the only reliever likely to get a chance in the second half.

Cliff Lee goes eight solid innings but Cleveland Indians lose to Chicago White Sox, 3-2

Closer lets Sox win in last at-bat, man

Chicago- Joe Borowski didn't blame anyone but himself. Closers have no choice in such matters.
Casey Blake gave the Indians a 2-1 lead in the 10th inning Tuesday night with a homer to left field at U.S. Cellular Field. It wasn't the break the Indians were looking for to stop this long fall to the depths of the American League, but at least it was a spark, a ray of light in a dark room.
Then came Borowski to extinguish all light, and perhaps hope, as the Chicago White Sox scored twice in the 10th inning to beat the Indians, 3-2.

Cleveland Indians young players not proving their worth in 2008

Wednesday, July 02, 2008

This season's collapse by your last-place Indians has opened the door for several prospects to play their way into the Tribe's future.
But most have been like Jeremy Sowers, who was hammered for eight runs in three innings in Chicago on Monday night. That sank his record to 0-4, raising his ERA to 7.53. What happened to the Sowers of 2006, who had the second-lowest American League ERA (2.72) after the All-Star break?
In the past two years, the lefty is 1-10 with a 6.78 ERA in 102 innings. That's 137 hits and 18 homers in those 102 in nings, with only 41 strikeouts. That's scary, especially since Sowers was 4-3 with a 2.08 ERA at Class AAA Buffalo, N.Y., this season, 18-9 with a 2.56 ERA in parts of three seasons with the Bisons. He's 25, a first-round draft pick in 2004. His time should be now.

Cleveland Indians manager Eric Wedge not ready to give up on this season

Wednesday, July 02, 2008
Chicago- Indians manager Eric Wedge still won't let this season go.
"It's hard for me to go there," Wedge said, when asked if the time had come for the Indians to become sellers with the approach of the July 31 trading deadline. "I want to win tonight [Tuesday] and put ourselves in position to win the series and go to Minnesota and do the same thing."
The Indians entered Tuesday's game in last place, 10? games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox in the American League Central. They have lost nine of their past 13 games and have losing records in each of the first three months of the season - going 13-15 in April, 12-15 in May and 12-16 in June.

Borowski blows save as Tribe's tumble continues
Wednesday, July 2, 2008
BY JOSH WEIR
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

CHICAGO The calendar turned from June to July on Tuesday.

For the Indians, it might as well have turned to late September.

Orlando Cabrera's RBI single off Cleveland closer Joe Borowski in the 10th inning ? two batters after Alexei Ramirez's two-out home run tied the score ? gave the White Sox a 3-2 win Tuesday night at U.S. Cellular Field.

DeWayne Wise, a pinch hitter who had just singled to right and stolen second, scored the winning run ahead of Grady Sizemore's throw, setting off a wild celebration of the White Sox's sixth straight win.

The Indians shuffled to their dugout after wasting a strong start by Cliff Lee and some late heroics by Casey Blake, losers of four straight and 10 of their last 14 games.

They're a season-high 11 1/2 games behind the White Sox in the Central Division and a season-high 10 games under .500.

Indians notebook: Guillen not writing off Tribe just yet
Wednesday, July 2, 2008
BY JOSH WEIR
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

CHICAGO The Indians just started a season with three losing months for the first time since 1992. For all the Tribe fans ready to pull the plug on 2008, know this: Ozzie Guillen wouldn't.

"They have too much talent," the White Sox manager said Tuesday. "In baseball you win five, six, seven games in a row and you're back in the top. You lose three or four, be careful. You never know what's going to happen. To be honest with you, I'm not counting them out at all."

Injuries to Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez, Fausto Carmona and Jake Westbrook have helped derail the season. The biggest reason for Guillen's thinking is the Tribe's pitching, led by C.C. Sabathia and Tuesday's starter Cliff Lee.

"They haven't played well for different reasons, but you never know," Guillen said. "With the talent they have, they should be able to bounce back and be what they should be. That's my opinion. I hope not. I hope they stay the same, but there is no way."

Even with the rest of the Central Division seemingly running away from the Indians and the trade deadline a month away, Cleveland Manager Eric Wedge isn't ready to call his team a "seller."

Sorry guys!!

How can Wedge not be ready to give up on this season? These guys are pitiful. We get good outings from our starters 2 or 3 out of 5 and we can't even win those games. Sorry Wedge but you must be an idiot if you think the Tribe is going to do something this season.

With the way the rotation has pitched this season there is absolutely no excuse for this team being as bad as they are.

I'm not convinced that Pronk is ever going to be back to where he was. He went cold as soon as he got that contract extension. Getting a healthy Martinez back should help.

I'm excited about Carmona, Lee, and Laffey. This team needs bats and a closer. Someone help me out!!
