Bench Nixon with game on the line
Wedge should platoon outfielders in left and right

Scribbles in my Tribe notebook...
Manager Eric Wedge has most of this figured out, but let's give him some help in a few areas when it comes to juggling what is not exactly a perfect roster.
Yes, Trot Nixon has started to hit .353 since the All-Star break and .294 in July. But, please, take him out of games for defensive purposes! What happened in the 4-1 loss Sunday to the Minnesota Twins makes it sound like a pure second guess Nixon failed to run down a line drive to right in the eighth inning when the Indians were in front 1-0. It's no secret that Nixon is still recovering from back surgery and can't move well. Nor is his arm strong. He is a below-average outfielder, and that is not about to change.

CLEVELAND: The Indians continue to lag behind other playoff contenders in attendance, but the situation is improving.
Overall, the Tribe has lured 1,463,835 fans to Jacobs Field and Miller Park (three games moved to Milwaukee count as home attendance for Cleveland). That's an average of just more than 26,000 and projects to a season total of 2,091,200 for 80 dates.
Unfortunately for the club's bottom line, the Indians will be one game short of the norm, because a ''home'' game is scheduled as part of a September doubleheader in Seattle to replay the final game from the snowed-out series in April.

Mark Shapiro is likely on his cell phone now, looking to bolster the Tribe's pitching staff before today's 4 p.m. trade deadline.
There's little doubt manager Eric Wedge and pitching coach Carl Willis are anxious for their general manager to find a willing trade partner.
Tribe players, though, are confident the pitching is already good enough to make a successful run at the team's first postseason berth since 2001.

Tonight's game has been an awful display of offense (thruogh 4 innings)....McCarthy has sucked this year, and hasn't really shown much but every hitter seems to want to knock it out of the park......Carmona hasn't looked great either, but he's throwing enough strikes and getting outs (no runs through 4)....It's funny that Victor stated a few months ago, he doesn't even normally ask for a location, he just puts his glove over the plate and hopes Carmona has his good stuff that night
