Indians Tidbits (2007 Season)

I heard yesterday that the one guy all the GM's are asking Shapiro about is Peralta. I'd trade him in a heartbeat if necessary. Sure he has some pop, but he sucks in the clutch , he's a butcher, and has the range of a three-toed sloth.
While I agree to an extent, the problem I see with getting rid of JP is that we will have to move A Cabrera to short and play Barfield at second. Barfield really didn't prove anything this past season so again we would be weakening one position while strengthening another but only in terms of defense. When JP isn't chasing those outside sliders, he does have some pop in his bat.

I agree I wouldn't really want to deal Lofgren or Miller. But, I would be tempted to trade Miller for Cabrera. He has been having injury issues and can't seem to stay healthy. BUT, I would have to talk to Cabrera to talk long term deal and see what he is thinking and be satisfied I can sign him for 5-6 years. PLUS I would have to have signed CC to a long term deal (cuz if we lose CC, Miller becomes more important). Then and only then would I think about it.

Now trading Peralta will come down to what we get for him. Yes if we trade Peralta we weaken 2nd base. BUT what do we get for Peralta? A young 2nd base prospect just in case Barfield can't improve? A power corner outfielder? A better 3rd baseman than Blake? That is the side of the equation that can make trading Peralta beneficial to the overall team.

Now trading Cliff Lee should be something Shapiro explores. What can we get for him? Who knows, but maybe if someone wants Peralta bad enough we can include Lee to get a better player in return.

Yea, but none that can hit anywhere near as good as him. He's like a fat Manny. He hit's over .300 against righties, lefties, day, night, any stadium, before/after the break.

No way the Yankees give them either pitcher. Well, maybe they would. You'd think they would have learned their lesson by now that their old staff sucks.

I know I'll be called an idiot, but I'd rather have Cabrera on my team than A-ROD....A-ROD is so overrated it's sickening...dude puts up numbers, but in the least important parts of the year and also is a huge distraction (getting caught w/ chicks w/ bigger biceps than him)

If Cabrera ended up on the Indians, and they didn't give up more than Peralta and Lee, you'd have to make the Indians an instant ALCS contender

I doubt you can bring Cabrera in if we get C.C. signed however...if we do bring Cabrera in, I doubt we're expecting C.C. to sign our offer

plus, I doubt we're really working any deals for him in the first place, but Caberea is a complete stud at the plate

Cabrera asking price might be too high for Indians

Cleveland.com

Florida reportedly is looking for a starting pitcher, center fielder, third baseman and, perhaps, a catcher. The Indians had the talent and depth to cover most of the requirements. They have extra starters in Cliff Lee, Aaron Laffey and Jeremy Sowers. They have a young, inexpensive third baseman in Andy Marte and a gifted defensive center fielder in Franklin Gutierrez. They're thin at catcher, and it's doubtful they would have dealt backup Kelly Shoppach, who started to bloom last year.

Marte...check
Lee or Sowers...check
Gutz...no way in hell. Maybe Fransisco
No Shoppach either

I would trade JP for the right deal. Cabrera to SS and Barfield back at second isn't as bad as some think. Barfield had a bad year last year, but he is going to be a good player.

I would trade anyone on this team aside from Fausto and Grady, and if they can re-sign C.C., I would not trade him either. But these farm guys? Trade 'em for a guy like Cabrera in a minute. I could puke thinking about the trades we could have made in the 90's for "untouchable" prospects like Jaret Wright and Russell Branyan. There is no such thing as a "sure thing" prospect. They are a WS contender and need to do what they can do NOW to put them over the top. I am sick of waiting, sick of hearing they won't trade someone like Frankie because of his "potential". Fuck that, get the proven talent in here, as long as they are not past their primes or coming of a big injury. That seems to be where the Tribe brass tries to catch lightning in a bottle too often, rather than go out and make the big deal or sign the guy for big money. It just does not work out. We saw it happen in the 90's. If this team would have made better trades than for re-treads or has-beens like Kevin Seitzer or John Smiley and gotten a guy like Pedro from the Expos when they could have, they would have won at least one World Series in the 90's. IMO.

Damn... The John Smiley Bomb.

Ouch.

I agree, no one is untouchable... (You're never gonna get the value back out of Sizmore or Carmona either, but... doesn't mean you don't talk about anything)

Meanwhile... lets not Trade Brian Giles for....

Yeah... you get the idea.

Good thing they voted before the playoffs.

Well, one of the reasons C.C. won was because of the amount of innings he logdged in the regular season. Not coincidentally, it's also one of the reasons he struggled in the postseason.

But Beckett's postseason moxy is amazing. I just wish he hadn't jawed at Kenny - it cheapened my opinion of him.
