Indians Playoff Hopes (Merged)

Geez, everyone back off the ledge! It is not like we are out of the playoffs. We are still tied for the lead in the wild card. We have C.C. going for us tonight, so we will be in the game. It will depend squarely on our offense. Are they pushing themselves too much near the end? The pressure finally getting to them?

Here is where Wedge needs to earn his paycheck. While he deserve manager of the year, it is not because of his great strategy to win close games.

I'll be at the game tonight so the Tribe has to win. This is a must win game and they better hope that the Yankees take at least 2 of 3 from the Sox this weekend. At least the White Sox have the Central all but wrapped up so they might rest some of the regulars a little this weekend.

It is conceivable that the three teams (Cleveland, New York, Boston) finish with the same records (95-67 or 94-68). The White Sox would win the central, in that case, and Boston and New York would tie for the East. I know that they have a 1-game playoff for which team wins the East, but would the loser of that game then play a 1-game playoff with Cleveland for which team wins the Wildcard? Or is there another tie-breaker they'd want to invoke, rather than make a team play 2 "extra" games?

edit: oops - there's a thread about this, already. Sorry!

I think I just saw yesterday that they would have a 1 game playoff for the East (Monday) and the WC (Tuesday). I would feel good about the Indians chances in that circumstance, since neither of the East teams have enough pitching to play that many big games in a row.
The Indians offense just needs to get in gear. Lee pitched great last night, but they couldn't even put 1 run on the board. This isn't a good time to get cold.

kinch: "The way it is looking for the Red Sox, I might have two extra tickets for you. . ."

Hey, if you want to part with them, send me a PM with the details at any time. If I can make it to the game, I'm sure we can work out a price.

Actually, even at 4-4, that's an accurate statement. We will AT LEAST stay tied with the Red Cox for one more day.

If the Red Cox lose tonite though, the Indians only need to win one game this weekend to guarantee at least a one-game playoff.
yeah, well......your mom
