WOW. This is the best ending weekend ever .. I might have to come up with a mysterious illness, leave work early, round up the fellas, and get a couple frosties at the Sports bar tomorrow night.

This is "glued to the TV" type stuff.

I hope the White Sox don't mail it in completely in this last series.

You always wanna have a little momentum going into the playoffs. I'm sure Terry Francona called Ozzie Guillen and told him the importance of that.

They are pitching Buehrle tonight so I don't think they will mail it in. I was hoping that they would rest him this weekend. The Yankees still have a chance to win the AL and get home field if the W Sox get swept. Sorry Sears, but I have to pull for the Yankees unless your Sox can pull the sweep.

Listening to Ozzie's quotes on Mike&Mike on the drive in Ozzie is not mailing in stating "I have to respect the Yankees & the Red Sox". But the funny thing is Buerhle was asked point blank and he said these games mean nothing to him and the playoffs are the only thing that matters now.

While Buerhle might start I see him pitching maybe 5 innings as a warm up for the playoffs. No way he throws 100 pitches let alone pitch past the 7th inning unless he has a perfect game or no-hitter going.

Plus I see the key guys in the bullpen not being burned out here, perfect place to give these guys a few days off.

The conspiracy is all in place

I hope you're right. They should have plenty of September call ups to use these next 3 games.

It looks like the Indians' "magic number" to tie the Red Sox is 3, and to tie the Yankees is 4. One of those two teams will lose at least 2 games this weekend. If the Yankees get the sweep, the Indians at least tie the Red Sox for the Wildcard. If the Red Sox get the sweep, the Indians need to win one game to tie the Yankees.

I know this isn't very complicated. I'm just making the point that even though it's popular to hate the Yankees, it would benefit the Indians if they win some games this weekend, so Indians fans should root for the Yankees.

I'm sorry I'm not familiar with that term

Um... Native American giver?

Shouldn't you be off trading half your team to rebuild for next year? :wink2:

The Indians were officially eliminated from the Central race when Chicago posted a 4-2 win at Detroit on Thursday. However, Cleveland remained tied with defending World Series champion Boston in the wild-card race with a much-needed 6-0 win over Tampa Bay on Thursday,

So the goal this weekend is simple: three wins and the Indians are in the playoffs for the first time since 2001.

If the Indians finish tied with either Boston or New York, the teams will have a one-game playoff Monday. If all three teams finish deadlocked, the Yankees and Red Sox will play Monday for the AL East title, with the Indians taking on the winner Tuesday for the wild card.

``Anyway we can get in is fine,'' said C.C. Sabathia, who pitched the Indians to victory Thursday. ``I just want to get in, period. We all know what we have to do.''

Sabathia pitched eight brilliant innings and Travis Hafner homered as Cleveland snapped a three-game losing streak that allowed Chicago to hold onto its dwindling lead.

The last three World Series champions -- Boston, Florida and the Los Angeles Angels -- all entered the postseason as wild cards.

``When the White Sox were 15 games ahead, we were looking at the wild card anyway,'' Sabathia said. ``Now, it's up for grabs.''

After flirting with one of the worst collapses in baseball history, the White Sox earned the right to relax a bit before the postseason begins.

``That team worked so hard all year long, they deserve to do what they're doing now,'' Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said with champagne-slicked hair. ``Finally, they can say, 'We did it!' A lot of teams made it tough on us. It wasn't easy.''
Chicago had a 15-game lead in the division on Aug. 1, then saw it dwindle to 1 1/2 games last weekend. The White Sox survived a shaky ninth inning against Detroit to win their AL-high 96th game and will start the playoffs at home next week.
So, what does the series mean to Chicago?

``Nothing,'' said Mark Buehrle, Friday's scheduled starter.

Commissioner Bud Selig may have something to say about that. Asked whether he would tell the White Sox to use their starters this weekend, Selig said: ``I have faith in the clubs. The clubs know what to do. I'm not telling them anything.''
Some teams prefer to rest regulars after they clinch first place. Selig wasn't concerned the White Sox would do that.
``They're still playing for home field,'' he said.
