Indians Playoff Hopes (Merged)

I guess it's just me but the term "choking" gets tossed around too much. The Tribe is a young,, upstart team that sadly is going to get dismantled when Millwood, Howry, and others exit for the doors of riches.

This team has a nice nucleus of good young players, and have nothing to be ashamed of for what they accomplished this year. There were many opps this year to make some noise, but the lack of situational hitting killed them. They got hot when the ball started leaving the park 2 1/2 months ago.

To Milwood. ( "BJ" NOT Kevin). You gotta really take a look at the opponents here the past 6 games. Tampa is a bitch, a real bitch, and have possibly the best manager in the game. You take a good young crew like that with no pressure on them and they showed how dangerous they can be. As far as the Sox go, they were the dynamite team in MLB for the better part of the season before they cooled. They still bring one helluva starting staff and a nice bullpen to the post-season. I could sit here right now and predict that the Sox will win the World Series and many would laugh. So what am I going to do, I'll predict right here that the Sox win the World Series.

I didn't see you objecting when the term "choking" was being tossed around for the White Sox.

don't care what age we're talking about... we choked...

you get that many people on base... and go 0 for 100 with men in scoring position... you choked...

I love my Tribe... and we'll be fine for years to come... but the term choke applies...

we handed it to 27.. but now he's returning the 'bon appetite' deservedly

BuckeyeNation27,

I'll start off by saying that I've always thought you were a total asshole and thank GOD you didn't disappoint me with your last bullshit comment. YEA, The Chi-Sox were on a "choke" mission. To me, "Choking" is having it all in your hands and then letting it slip away. The Tribe never had it in hand. Granted, if they had won three games this week they'd be in the playoffs. Thats alot easier said than done in MLB. It's why they play the games. It's why Boston is one out from being eliminated fron the Divisional series then goes on to win the World Series.

Argue with me, debate with me, but don't put some little pussy comment about me talking about the Sox "choking" without more to back it up. THAT was weak.

OOps!!!, Thump just called me and said I should have called you a "HOMO"

So, "YOU ARE A HOMO"

I was there for all three games. 'Choke'? I dunno. Baseball, as I understand it, is a game of streaks and slumps. A streak took them to the cusp of making the playoffs, and a slump yanked it away. They were flat, and there were some bad decisions made by Wedge (leaving in Cabrera on Friday after intentionally walking Konerko, leaving a clearly spent Westbrook in to face Iguchi, etc.), but what are you gonna do? Bottom line, 93 wins is probably a dozen more than anyone reasonably expected in March. Probably twenty more than anyone expected after April. Wicky wants to come back, and the nucleus remains. Sizemore will get better, Crisp will get better, Peralta will get better. I still maintain that "There's always next year," is the mantra of the career loser, but there really is nothing else right now. They have to get Wick back, they really really ought to re-sign Ronnie, and if I were GM, I'd try to package a couple prospects to go out and get a good bat at first base.

<...dreams of Mike Sweeney in an Indians uni...>

Anyway, maybe 'choke' is an appropriate term, maybe not. Doesn't really matter. DJ, Hughes, LeBron, Donyell and Z take the floor in exactly thirty days.

do you need me to send you a box of tissues? i love people who think I'm an asshole but have never had any conversation with me to confirm it. why don't you scroll back through this thread and see all the "pussy comments" with nothing more to back it up sent to me. apparently i'm supposed to take all that shit and then not say anything back when a crybaby indian fan doesn't want to accept the fact that his team choked. you didn't have to win 3 games this week....you had to win 1 this weekend. thats all you needed to force a play in game for the wild card. you fucking blew it. CHOKE. You had a 1 game lead over the AL east 2nd place team for the wildcard and you fucking blew it. CHOKE. you had everything to play for and this is how you finished the last 7 games:

Kansas City: Loss
Tampa Bay: Loss
Tampa Bay: Loss
Tampa Bay: Win
Chicago: Loss
Chicago: Loss
Chicago: Loss

CHOKE

damn, 27... chill out, bro... we're still all Buckeyes here, remember?

sheesh... the 24 stranded base runners in the 13 inning game is the Cleveland season in microcosm... it is entirely fitting that the season ended for the Tribe in the exact manner that it began: with the pitchers tossing gems, and the batters failing to keep their end of the bargain...

i'm disappointed, but then again, no one saw them coming, so, IMHO, there is more upside than downside to this year...

this is a VERY GOOD young team, and as long as Shapiro keeps them together, they are going to be making noise for a long time to come...

i think what the indians did can easily be pushed aside to a young team, but regardless, its still choking.

1st the cavs get so close then fall at the end
2nd the indians get so close then fall at the end
3rd ? can't see the browns even getting close this year....

I can understand BN27's hostility towards Cleveland fans, especially those who were talking trash earlier this week, but lets try to keep the threads clear of profanity. I think everyone can make their point without lowering ourselves to that level....

Not to be needlessly pedantic, but I believe it's 'who attacked whom'.

Yeah, that's right - I corrected your grammar. So what, wanna fight about it?

I have been avoiding this thread like a plague! Damn Indians. They choked away the playoffs! And for arguing it is not choking, going 1-6 in your last 7 games is choking!

You could tell watching them this weekend that they were all pressing too hard and not playing their game. That is what I call the definition of choking. They let the pressure affect them and it kept the Indians from making the playoffs. Yeah people can say they came a long way. But alot of people thought the Indians would contend for the playoffs and when you get this close with your destiny in your own hands and instead of embracing it you put those hands around your neck.

Oh well, what else can we expect? This is Cleveland afterall.

But I still have hope... I beat BN27 in Fantasy College Football so all is good

Piney has a lot of experience with choking thanks to the Fantasy Baseball season. :p

At least it's almost time for Cavs season. Go Lebron!!!
