Indians Playoff Hopes (Merged)

cleveland is 2 back of the sox and a half game ahead of the bosox.

the bosox and yanks finish up the season with a 3 game set, so that will play itself out in all liklihood.

cleveland needs to hope they can cut the chicago lead to one going into this weekend, that way taking 2 out of 3 gets them a playoff game for the central title. with 6 games left, cleveland needs to go 4-2 at worst.

There won't be a playoff for the Central Title if both would be in the postseason... they just go to whatever the Tiebreaker is, which I assume is head to head (though, I'm not sure)... so.. unless people just start using "Co-Champs" as it stands today, the Tribe would need to Sweep the Sox to get the title... having said that, if the Tribe an Wsox tie with the second place East Team, they'll have to play the Sox and then the second place team in the east.... as described earlier...

So... basically... the "4 of 6 at worst" scenario will actually ensure them at least a one game playoff for the wild card since they are even in the loss column with Boston and NYY... and one of them HAS to lose at least two more games.

Also, that Double Header today hurts the BoSox, I think... if Wakefield gets chased early in Game one.. the repurcussions on their Bullpen would be bad for them the next few days.

Conveniently.. this was in the Plain Dealer today... because My Googling Skills weren't getting the answer otherwise.

If the Indians finish tied with the White Sox atop the Central, a one-game playoff will take place Monday at Jacobs Field only if neither team can win the wild card. If the Indians and White Sox are tied and have clinched both available postseason berths (division champ, wild card), the White Sox would win the division without a one-game playoff based on a better head-to-head record in the regular season.

THen the INdians and White Sox Play eac other, the Red SOx and Yankees Play each other... the winner of those games wins the Divisions.. and the losers play for the Wild Card.

Tough, Tough, loss after a comeback to make it 5-4 and Belly GIDP to lose the game. Good news is the white sox lost and it looks like the yankees and red sox are going to both lose too as of now. So its pretty much gonna be the same amount of games back and tied with the East teams for tomorrow.

Yesterday was the chance that the Tribe needed to secure a playoff spot, hopefully they can pick it back up today. I would rather have the Tribe pitching staff than any others right now. Now winning 4 of 5 will get them in or 3 of 5 will get them a playoff to get in.

Lets just hope we win the TB series with the way Detroits playin and the way the Chi sox are right now we could be tied goin into the final series, not likely at all but still possible. So we would just need 2 out of 3 in the final series if we were.

I get the feeling that the Tribe are going to have to sweep the Sox to win the Central. Last nights game all but sealed that. No way the Sox lose the next 2 games.

Oh.. anything can happen at this point I think.

But you're right... they are running out of games....

Meanwhile, so is one of the East teams... since one of them is already 2 behind us in the loss column.

Start to get worried. I found my White Sox hat that was given to me during spring training....and that I "retired" for my OSU stuff once the season started. It's back on my head for the bye week......all is lost for injun fans.
