Day was very unconcerned in his presser today. Said Hafley doing it right. Everyone focused on Clemson. No problem with getting the best assistant.

“We're going to get the best coach in America to go coach that position,” Day said. “You can either go hire somebody that’s going to be here for seven or eight years, or you can go hire the best in the country. And we're going to go hire the best in the country.
“I told the DB's last year at this time, we’re going to go get the best guy in the country. They didn't know who Jeff Hafley was, and now they love him and they're going to miss him. But I’m going to do the same thing again next year, go get the best there is.”

Day is such a badass, what a great answer. Just reaffirmed what I had anticipated. We're Ohio State, we get the best. That being said, god I'd live to have Coombs or Ash back to coach our secondary (with a strong preference on Coombs).
Gimme Coombs anyday but honestly we aren't a quarters match team so Ash would have to do our system.Day is such a badass, what a great answer. Just reaffirmed what I had anticipated. DC is a step up from DB coach. Don't know if combs is ready for that step but the plus of Mattison is once again we can take a risk on a ace DB coach who he can groom into a DC. If we hit on someone who apparently is the level of a playcaller of Hafley though as well....Is Coombs actually possible? Like, I still haven’t seen an actual source come out and say it looks like it could really happen. I sincerely apologized if I missed but I’m wondering if our hope in home is warranted or if we are sitting around a nice Christmas chimney fire and passing around a crackpipe while we listen to Whitney Houston.

Hafley was a DB coach in the NFL when we hired him as a Co DC. On some pretty bad teams at that. Coombs has been a DB coach for a good team that may even make the playoffs. And he was an associate DC while at OSU, and pretty much started the run of OSU as DBU. He in every way could handle being a DC with or without Mattison, IMODC is a step up from DB coach. on the Bucknuts morning show, they said that OSU is prepAring to offer Coombs $1.5m to get him in S&G. That would also mean that the other assistants would get a bump tooIn case you are interested in who some of the top paid assistant coaches are and how much they make:
