Impending Assistant Coach Vacancies

The constant losing of assistant coaches is worrisome, the one weakness of the Meyer regime. Meyer hit some absolute homeruns on hires and he had some complete losers: Withers, Billy Davis, Taver Johhnson, Grinch, Beck etc...

Day had a pretty good group of assistants this year but continually losing a handful a year is really going to challenge Day as a coach. Larry Johnson will probably retire sometime in the next couple years. Mattison is like 70. Only a matter of time before Wilson gets another head coaching job.

At this point, I trust Day more than Meyer. Obviously a very small sample size, but every single position group was better this year than last....other than maybe QB and possibly WR. And he went out and found young up and comers, not also-rans that happened to be in his wedding party.

The best staff I have seen at OSU. We didn't have a single weakling. I trust he can do it again since his track record albeit a very short one, is stellar. Urban's loyalty was also an issue at times, too loyal. Maybe since Day isn't going to demand 2 years, he is also going to can your butt if you suck the first a la Beck, Warinner, Withers, Davis, Grinch, etc.

Would we be concerned that Day is falling into a "Billy Davis" hire if he hired Corey Dennis to replace Yurcich? Maybe Dennis is great but we are hiring someone with practically no recruiting experience because he is Meyer's son-in-law. Yes, I know several players have said good things about Dennis, but I would prefer someone with more experience.

From what I have seen from Dennis, he is very personable and I would guess a good recruiter. Recruiting takes two things, effort and personality. As long as the effort is there, I think he would be a good young coach that is more relatable to 18 year olds than most older "proven" guys.

According to some of the past QBs, he evidently has learned a great deal and has been their "go to guy" for fundamentals.

Personally I'd be ok giving Dennis a full time job to lock him in for the next decade.

i'd be very happy to have n̶i̶c̶k̶ ̶s̶i̶c̶i̶l̶i̶a̶n̶o corey dennis hired as our qb coach. my optimism and confidence would be overflowing.
You made me look up where Nick Siciliano went. After being out of coaching for 4 years after the departure of Jim Tressel he went to work for Cardinal Health and Franklin Computer Services. However, he has restarted his football coach career as a quality control coach on PJ Fleck's staff. Guessing the Jim Tressel ties brought the two of them together.

Dude, that's the weakness of CFB as a whole. Case in point, Alabama, look how CFB is littered with his former assistants (UGA,UMd, Arky, Tenn, CMU, etc) it happens at all successful programs. It's the game. Coaches no longer stay for years like decades ago, too much money to be made and portfolios to build.

Recent NFL fired staffs interesting names.
Just from the Browns
Tosh Lupoi- not a db coach, but heck of a recruiter
DeWayne Walker- a little older, db coach, long history of NFL and College experience.
Our old friend Everett Withers is out of a job today too, as he was the Giants secondary coach.

Tosh is intriguing strictly because he’s a hell of a recruiter. Got Bama Tua and Najee Story amongst others. Not sure if he’s a great coach.

Doesn’t Tosh have a long history of NCAA violations including a show cause from his Cali days
