Assistant Coach
Will someone with some connections be sure to let Day know that he officially has some latitude? So Mattison was a DL coach / DC his entire career with the exception of 2008 in Baltimore when he had the LBs. Not sure what to make of this, as many of you also seem to be in the same boat.
While admittedly puzzling, the fact that this one was the first announced tells me that it's hardly a desperation move. Day hasn't given me reason to question him yet... although this is an eyebrow raiser, I'm willing to give him some latitude to see how he fills out the rest of the staff.
Hoping that this is a DC role that LJ was offered and turned down. Let him DC and then get some solid position coaches for LBs and the secondary who are ace recruiters and call it a day. It might be a good thing to have a bit of a salty dog DC for a bit to provide some needed been there / done that experience on the D side of the ball in the WHAC. Aside from Wilson and LJ, the coaching staff is pretty young, no?
