Impending Assistant Coach Vacancies

Halfey is probably your DC in training in this scenario.

Interesting hires - it appears he's pulling together a team of coaches he is familiar with and who has had success in other locations at varying levels.

A lot of these hires appear to be about changing cultures and the energy in the building. Time will tell if it pans out but clearly the defensive staff was dysfunctional or nearly so this past year.

I've seen a lot of people questioning if Hafley can recruit. Considering Farrell's primary focus in covering college football is in regards to recruiting, while also being based on the East Coast, I'm guessing Hafley's got some chops when it comes to the recruiting game.

While I hope he’s right about this, Farrell is a douche.

I'm still on board with Day's thinking here... his defensive staff has...

1) The best F-ing DL coach in the country who gets "promoted" to associate head coach and gets money poured all over him. Long live the king.

2) A seasoned vet at DC who has an in-depth knowledge of our conference and has been a top-notch recruiter his entire career... who also can coach a mean DL.

3) A young-gun with a decade (at 39 years old!) of experience at both P5 and NFL. Seems to have recruiting chops on the east coast (which we need post-Schaino). He can take over Schiano's role defensively.

Now we need two more... Here's what I want.

4) A proven LB coach that can fill in the co-DC role when Mattison retires. Someone like Freeman or Washington. Gotta be able to COACH.

5) A safety coach who is a maniac on the recruiting trail. I want some Combs-esque energy like Hartline is bringing on the offensive side.

That would be a dynamite staff for Day.

In the end, Buckeye fans are getting the large overhaul we all wanted, while keeping the best we had on the D side in Larry Johnson Sr.

Also, now have a mix of older experienced front-seven playcaller and a young successful secondary coach. It's a little unconventional, I admit, but we were ready to burn it all down. Day did that.

Add Al Washington or Marcus Freeman as LB coach and let's roll.

It wouldn't surprise me if we see Kevin Wilson depart in the coming weeks either.
It will me. First, there's no buzz about Wilson going anywhere and I'm not sure he's been in HC exile long enough considering the Indiana allegations of his conduct as HC. Second, Wilson and Day clearly work very well together. Three, if I'm Ryan Day, considering the way this last season went on that side of the ball, I do all I can to keep the band together.
