Re: Ron Guenther destroyed Illinois football (3 votes)

The good thing here is Beckman is quite similar to Zook. I think he is a slightly better coach though, and is more attention to detail than Zook. People don't realize (Well I guess some are starting to) that Zook was THIS close to making the Illini an absolute juggernaut/elite team. Beckman has picked up where he left out and no doubt he will elevate it.

I should also say that I'm not of the opinion that he needed a new OC like people thought. Petrino was a pretty good OC and one of the best WR coaches in the country to boot. It all came down to talent which they were lacking (Or at least, the talent wasn't ready I should say). That is improved through recruiting and I continue to say this, but if they had stayed, they would've gotten some MONSTER prospects on offense. It is what it is though. Beckman is the guy now, and he's going to tear it up.

9-4
5-7
3-9
7-6
6-6

He was this close, you guys. Juggernaut.

Nothing from ThaKid since 10/14 when he started this gem of a thread:

How Long Until Meyer Leaves OSU?

We all know it's coming. I just wonder when, and if it will be "health issues" this time. Also, I don't know the guy or the "real" story, but I see Storm Klein is back on the Ohio State roster. I thought he was dismissed for beating up his GF in the spring? What happened there? How did he magically appear back on the team once the season started?

Also, has anyone taken a look at Florida's arrest record under Meyer? I wouldn't say anything about it, but when you take a look at what has gone on at OSU so far (ESPECIALLY in the spring), it makes you wonder...back to the original topic though, how long do you think he will stay at OSU? I say the over/under is 3 years.

Continued...

Glad to see his ol' running buddy chimed in as well...lolz!

And someone proposed another bet:

You're right. I'll give him 4 years. But one of the following will then happen:

OSU gets investigated again for major illegal action and/or recruiting benefits and he is let go.

OR

OSU's major (And mounting) off the field issues catch up to them and he is let go.

OR

Once his top inherited QB Braxton Millers leaves (BG QB, Smith at Utah, Leak/Tebow at Florida), Meyer will somehow have "health issues" which he will start taking off. Once he comes back, but the team continues to struggle (Like Florida), he will then leave, citing the aforementioned "health issues".

So yeah I'll give him 4 years. The only question is will he win a NC before he leaves. I am inclined to say yes due to the special, all time great type of college QB he has inherited, but the Illini have Aaron Bailey and others coming in, the Michigan hype train is back, etc. etc. Plus the B10 as a whole is getting much stronger, and will be stronger than the SEC was when he was at Florida. We'll see. Should be intereresting.

Yeah I could see that if the rumor among messageboard fans was actually true that he was on the hot seat (Which isn't). Of COURSE Meyer would make that move. Beckman is already close to edging him out in Ohio recruiting as Meyer has foolishly tried a more national approach. Why not take your biggest competition and put him on your staff if your in-conference for foolishly fires him after a year? Oh yeah, again that won't happen.

holy unicorn shit. the only way to sum up this kid's mental state is the following:

I think my favorite Meyer criticism is that he doesn't stay anywhere long, as evidenced by him leaving BGSU and Utah as soon as he could once his QBs were gone.

I mean, it makes complete sense to think that when Utah called he would've said, "Nah ... I think I'd rather stay at Bowling Green." Or the even more absurd, he was going to turn down the Florida job because he just adored being at Utah.

When this is the opening argument, the only real response is, "does it hurt to be that stupid?"
