Game Thread Illinois 28, Ohio State 21 (final)

Man just watched the sportscenter and It's tough to see James on TV right now. The area around his eyes were obviously red/swollen to me and that really stings. I could also see Bartons face in the background during the tressel interview and his face was pretty swollen as well. You could tell how much these boys wanted it, and it hurts them the most that they came up short today. Shake it off guys lets go bucks!!!!

can i reach through the TV and punch Mark May in the face...

...hard?

If you figure it out, let me know.

Read Mandel's blog, and although he's too stupid to think that there is indeed a lack of speed on the Buckeye team (compared to SEC teams), it's not an outrageous piece.

The last time Ohio State lost a conference game...

109 weeks ago in Happy Valley...

Was also the last time Michigan lost to a Big Ten team other than Ohio State.

For more than two years, the rest of the league can't hang with us; but we both go down on the same day.

You're correct though.. I've been impressed with Zook for what he's doine since he's gotten here. I've seen so many people bash him and understandably so, but the man can get talent and as we found out today he isn't too bad at making that talent perfoorm either. Who was the poster who said that "this is the kind of game Zook will win".. I remember earlier in the week a poster of another fan base said Zook will blow a game to a lesser team but will beat someone like the #1 Buckeyes. I thin it was a gator fan? Whoever it was he couldn't have been mor correct!! Come forward cuz I want to give you some greens
.

That was me and - to be fair - JaxBuck too. But I don't enjoy calling it buki. I was just saying "watch out", as it is just the kind of win he'd pull off when he was at G-ville, and then he'd follow it up with a loss to some unranked team or two. But that is his pattern. Tough loss. He looked about to cry on the post-game interview, talking about how they took him and his wife into the Illinois nation....I guess it is a warm and fuzzy place to be after we treated him a little shabby.

I have no doubt you'll come back and punk slap scUM. :oh::io:

A few things:

-To the Illini dancing on the logo, take this opportunity and fuck off. But it shouldn't be surprising, since they stuck the flag in the Spartan logo when they had won what...one Big Ten game in like 3 years? I don't buy the whole "They were just excited" crap. If they want to dance, do it anywhere else, ANYWHERE else, on the field, in the endzone, on the sideline with their fans...anywhere. The selection of the midfield logo is a targeted statement, and should be met with the judgement of classless horeshit that it is.

-No offense to anyone here, but anyone who actually mentions this loss in the same breath with 1998 MSU is either drunk, wasn't a Buckeye fan then or didn't see that game, has totally blocked that out (can't blame you), or has no clue what they're talking about. We had experienced players and NFL calibur players at nearly every position, MSU didn't even make a bowl that year, and we had a 24-9 lead in the 3rd quarter before they started calling plays like they were terrified they were going to lose, and then called a D-VI calibur HS gameplan the rest of the way on both sides of the ball. So, OK, poor coaching decisions, yes, there were a few in each game. But in terms of our team, the opponent, the level of competition, the choke job, the quality of play, and virtually everything else, it isn't even in the same zip code. The OSU team in 1998 was arguably the best college team in the 1990s, right with 1993 Florida State, 1994 Penn State and 1995 Nebraska. This isn't even our best team in the last 5 years.

-The UM game is now the season. Win, and we hit BCS paydirt for the 5th time in Tressel's 7 years. Lose, and it's the Capital One Bowl, a 2 game losing streak, and a feeling like Michigan had at the end of last year. We don't want that by any stretch.

-I am just as pissed at this loss as many of you, but for those who are "threatening" to leave after a single loss to an 8-3 team, please leave now, Cryami could use a few more fans until they lose a game next year. We don't want you here. Ever.

-I am already gearing up to write my part of the preview for this week. This loss sucks, but if someone had told me I would be writing a preview for a 10-1 team at the beginning of the year, I probably would have thought you were nuts. So hopefully everyone will gain some perspective as the week wears on.

-And speaking of perspective, people want perspective? Jake Locker was just carted off immobilized in an ambulance after a helmet-to-helmet hit tonight against Oregon State. He was a warrior against us, and I am hoping it was just precautionary. He has his whole future flashing before his eyes right now. We are fans of a team that has lost one game in 11 tries. Some of you need to grow the fuck up.

I have no idea who you are. As such, please don't call me pal.

Please do not attempt to belittle me with your amazing "ability" to read writing on the wall. Everyone who leaves a game early believes that they have "read the writing on the wall." I have often had the luxury of being among those who saw the wins that these deserters missed due to the misinformation of the writing on the wall.

Be proud of giving up on our team. Go for it. Defend it if you wish.

Just don't fucking call me pal.

Don't have to defend anything, skippy.

Lighten up. At the end of the day it's just a game. Much more important things in life to get all worked up over.

In all the crap in this thread you decided to call me out because I correctly saw that our D couldn't make a stop and we wouldn't get the ball back. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Great minds and whatnot.....

they were going to lose eventually. I wish it wasn't going to be right now or at all, but the reality is that teams will eventually lose.

Thats the biggest thing I realized when we lost this game (haha and this will sound truely sad to some of you).

I don't know how to lose really? I mean when you follow this team and we lose 4 games in 3 years you don't know what to do, or think when you're favorite team loses. However this time it hit me. I finally realized "hey life goes on hu". I mean I'm still gettin up tomorrow going to work, being happy, workin out, lovin life and gettin ready for the big week that is MICHIGAN WEEK!

I consider it a good problem to have when I say I'm not use to losing!

Outplayed and outcoached.

You can count on Zook laying an egg every other game, but he didn't do it today.

Illinois players are classless. Many are acedemic rejects. I wish we wouldn't resist their stomping on our midfield - instead we'd show it next week, and definitely next game against Illinois.

Mike,

It was presented matter of factly. It wasn't intended to insult anyone or ruffle feathers. It was simply how I saw the game at that point in time.

Never, did I saw I was jumping ship to root for another team or anything silly like that.

I've been watching this team since the late 1960's. I've seen a lot of Ohio State games and took a lot of losses hard when I was younger (and I still don'ttake a loss to you know who well). However, to have someone jump on me for what I posted? Just silly.

Bucklion great post... unfortunately this game coming up has more on the line. If we lose to scUM we DONT for sure go to the capital one bowl....we fall to 3rd in the big ten behind big ten winner scUM and second place ILL if they win against feeble northwestern. But the hope lies in this, that many are predicting a Ill fallout next week because of Zooks record after big wins so you still may be correct in which we might get our shot to play Florida again(if LSU goes to the title, georgia would go to the sugar, flor wins ties against tenn, but would need aub to lose). Most likely scenario is we win, go to the Rose and play one of 3 teams, Oreg unless they go title hunting, ASU if oreg goes to the title and they win out, or USC if they win out and oreg goes to the title. regardless we are most likely looking at a sec or Pac-10 foe after scUM.

:oh:

well, I just got home and so I haven't read the last forty pages of posts but after chewing on the game results for a few hours, we just got outplayed today. Not all of their players were better than all of our players, but their QB outplayed Boeckman, their DBs outplayed ours, everything else was about the same. Maybe a little conservative playcalling stung us again today, but WTF one loss a year? as a fan, I can't complain.

I am a little disappointed that this happened on our field, on Senior Day. Just did not foresee that coming.

Go Bucks! Beat Michigan! Still the Best!
