If YOUR kid was offered a scholarship to a rival school....

Personally I'd probably handle it the same way my folks told me when I was picking out schools to apply to. You can go to any school you want, said my dad, whatever makes you happy. But if you decide on Ohio State or MSU, not a single dime of my money follows you there. (Mom says that goes for Arkansas, Oklahoma, and T-A&M too.)

They needn't have worried, of course.

My wife and I meet at ohio state, we are both graduates, I proposed to her on the oval. So it's obvious that we would lean towards Ohio State. That said, you can't try to sway your kid one way or the other in the name of self interest. Ya gotta let the kid find his/her's own way in life.

If my kid was offered a scholarship to a rival school.... I would look around, then look back and close the little clear box and scream NO DEAL! Then, wake up and realize 1) I'm not on the show Deal or No Deal, 2) I closed an imaginary box, and 3) I don't have a kid.

But in all honesty, if my kid was offered a scholly at scUM, I'd tell him/her (hopefully him, so he'll take my side) that he would be better suited for community college than scUM? I'm horrible I know.

So how bout this question.... Full Ride to lets say Michigan or having to pay to play ball at OSU (Grey shirt maybe?)

I'm not going to lie if I don't have to pay for it then I'd tell him to go with the scholarship.. But if my kid's taking out the loans then hell yeah OSU all the way! I mean I am no where near having kids but you gata understand I'm cheap haha..

I should have stated the question more clearly. If YOUR kid was offered sholarships to tOSU, and the "other" rival schools.....and he chose one of the "other" schools over tOSU. (The kid would have a full ride scholarship at all the schools involved.) How, as a parent, would you handle it?

I'm thinking, if he is THAT good, and he would have a shot at making it at the professional level, he should choose the school that would best prepare him for the pros. If a professional career is iffy (most kids), then he should choose the school that fits him best academically. As a biased alumn, it seems like a no brainer......tOSU!

How about this... If he's being offered a full ride to Michigan, he has some talent, right? Why wouldn't the Bucks be looking at him?

If my kid was offered by coach Tressel, JT wouldn't even get to finish his offer before it would be accepted.
And then the crying would begin.

I'm confused

Would those be tears of joy or

from the headlock and noogie you'd have on your RB son for even THINKING of going to a rival?

If my kid was offered a full ride to scUM and they put him in a good position to get to the NFL so be it, he'll be a wolverine with a Buckeye parent! I'd be at all of his games, but wearing tOSU apparel, I might get a scUM hat that I'd hold in my hand during the game.
