If you could have one person back from 2002....

Smith in shotgun with Holmes, Ginn, Gonzo, and Jenkins all wide would be fun to watch.

Will Smith would have the biggest impact. Kudla and Smith on the edges with Pittcock anchoring the middle. Hawk would win the heisman with a d line like that taking up bodies and freeing the linebackers up.

gamble or will smith. if i'm getting the gamble who didn't take plays off then he beats will out just because we need more help in the backfield than the front 7. going strictly on talent, will smith would be my choice.

Will Smith. You look at who really put up yards on us this year and it's been passers who can sit in the pocket while their receivers burn the secondary. You can't realistically expect CBs to hold up in man-coverage for 7 or 8 seconds like we have at times this year (e.g. Cupito, Young). Will Smith up there with Kudla on the line, and Carp rushing from the edge would just be ugly...for the opposing QB. It wouldn't be a prevent-defense, it would be a "1st and 10, 2nd and 17, 3rd and 25, no 4th down because the QB threw a pick on 3rd" defense.

Will Smith is my pick. He manhandled offensive linemen, backs that tried to pick him up, and eventually QB's. Add in his fire and intensity, just a dominant force. On the other hand, a tall, athletic corner, who cancels one side of the field would be nice. Of course, you could take a MLB who demanded that everyone around him raise their game, and then led by example. A kicker who rarely missed would be nice, or maybe a big-play receiver who was money in crunch time. There was a freshman RB who showed some potential but we won't go there. Tough call, but I'll stick with Smith.

You guys are killing me here.

Swallow the pride and admit it. If Maurice Clarett was still here, we wouldn't be playing The Domers on 1/2. With Clarett, we'd likely be gunning for our 3rd NC in the past 4 years and would be playing USC in the Rose Bowl. Go back and watch your tapes of the games from 2002, and then add 3 years of maturity (yikes! should the words "Clarett" and "Maturity" ever be used in the same sentence) to THAT and what you have is one of the greatest players in the History of CFB.

Oh well, it was a fantasy thread to begin with. Peace.

Before I make my pick, let me preface it by saying that all of you are my Buckeye brothers, and no matter what I say next, I still think you all are great. That being said, anyone that picked Gamble or Wilhelm needs to put the fucking bong down. When you get to take only one person from the 2002 team, you pick the one who will make the quickest and most pronounced impact. No one, that's no one, would benefit the 2005 team more than Will Smith...period, end of discussion, finito.

  • Gamble would make little improvement at corner. True, Youboty struggled of late, but he's still very good and Malcolm Jenkins is simply lights fucking out.

  • I was one of Wilhelm's biggest fans in 2002, but he would be little, if any, improvement over Schlegel.

This year's defense for the most part has lacked a speed pass rusher, although Kudla was great at the end of the season. Putting Will Smith on the other side would be an absolute nightmare for any offense. Our rushing defense is the best in the country while our pass defense has been so-so...getting Will Smith's pass rushing coupled with Kudla's end-of-year performance would take huge pressure of the secondary, and would turn our pass defense into a top-10 pass defense. Teams would be lucky to even score...
