If Tressel retired today, who would you want to replace him?

How exactly does going undefeated, winning your BCS game, and producing a #1 draft pick hinder your resume as a coach? I mean what else could he have done better?

I see what you're saying, and this is going to sound pretty pathetic, but Alex Smith is good, but any other year he wouldn't have cracked the Top 10 (and yes, I know he still was drafted number one :wink2: ).

You're also right that Meyer went undefeated at Utah, and went to a BCS game and won, which is certainly impressive. However, their competition was not that great, and their BCS bowl opponent was a mediocre team. It's all the luck of the draw, and Meyer and the Utes certainly got the better end that year. I'm not disrespecting Meyer or Utah. However, I think that it wouldn't be totally farfetched to say that maybe he and the 2004 Utah Utes were overrated.

I'm not saying that this is who I would want, but think about a guy LIKE Joe Glenn at the University of Wyoming. 17 winning seasons in 20 years as a head coach, three championships. Strong values, great staff, decent recruiter (remember, he is coaching at Wyoming). Had a tough year last year, but it was his first losing season in like 15 years or something. Basically, he has a similar philosophy as JT, and he is successful. Yeah, he, has never coached an "elite" program, but then again, neither had JT. I don't know that there is anyone that I could name right now, especially in the huge national programs, that I would say, "yeah, thats definately the guy." I think any program is better off with a guy like Tressel or Glenn, though, in the long run.

Urban Meyer has 2 out clauses in his contract with UF after I believe 5 years. One is for the head coaching job at Notre Dame, and the other is to go back to where he grew up and coach for OSU.

That is from some contract insider websites that my roomate knows through Husker Power Hour.com

Put me on the Urban Meyer bandwagon. He obviously considers OSU to be one of his "dream jobs" and the guy knows how to win. Don't forget that he made Bowling Green awfully good before leaving for Utah.

That "out clause" doesn't make sense to me. Unless I am mistaken, couldn't he already have gotten the ND job if he really wanted it??? The talk at the time the job was open was that ND was going after him and he didn't take it...

Maybe he just didn't want to get pwned by the Buckeyes in the Fiesta Bowl like Jabba the Weis did.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Bo Pelini or Pepper Johnson yet.

Working on the He-managed-to-bring-the-Titanic-back-to-the-surface,-imagine-what-he-could-do-here theory: Kirk Ferentz (sp) of Iowa, Randy Walker at Northwestern and Marvin Lewis of the Bengals.

BTW, Stoops turned down a chance to apply for the job even though the Dispatch made it sound like he was a shoe-in.

Thats true, but from what has also been said, UF offered him wayyyyy more money as we did NOT have an alternative since Zook was done and gone.

He was vocal that he wishes to coach for ND before he retires, but since we offered him insane cash he came here for what I remember being a 7 year contract, with 5 years until anyone can exercise the out clause.

I think it was 7 years for $14 million insiders say the outclause starts in 5th year, but it has been rumored that a national championship before then comes with a huge bonus and a possible out clause.

But Ohio State is rumored to be on there with Notre Dame, and after this recruiting class this past year, I wouldn't mind seeing Urban go from my 2nd favorite university to my favorite in the future.

If he goes to ND however, I won't give him support.

I thought that out-clause was in his contract with Utah. If a coaching vacancy was at Michigan, ND, or Ohio State, he could leave whenever he wanted without penalty. They put something similar in his contract at UF? Oh well, if coaching at tOSU is his "dream job" then more power to him.
