If Tressel retired today, who would you want to replace him?

Yes, I realize this year was not that great for UF, but this is like our 2004. One year does not constitute a pattern. His 2 national championships and success at every stop along the way make me want him as our next coach.

He is off to nice money and light working hours as an ESPN guy. I do not see him going back to coaching. Not that tOSU is not a plumb job, just that I believe him when he says he wants to protect his health and see his kids more.

2009/10 bowl season was the first year since 2003 in which the Big 10 had a winning bowl record. Last year's season is looking like an aberration rather than a trend upward.

But to your point of Tressel's hiring:
OSU didn't have a 2-time NCAA Division 1 head coach as a candidate at that time. There are many great reasons why Tressel was hired of course, but long story short no two coaching searches are alike.

To me he point of the thread is who I would want to succeed Tressel if he left today, not who might you miss on if OSU hired my choice. We could play the "who would we miss out on" game with anyone selection whether it be Harbaugh, Mullen, Gruden, etc.

OSU also had a problem of having a previous head coach who had alienated a lot of high schools, something that Tressel could correct. Good point. Also, I understand you wrote that it only "augment[ed]" your position.

I just disagree that the SEC's wins versus the Big Ten have anything to do with who would be best to succeed Tressel. Urban Meyer may be a great hypothetical candidate but not because he's coming from the SEC.
