If defensive staff changes are coming, who should OSU be looking to hire?

I hope that most people weren't seriously invested in Finkes as the next DL coach in the first place. I don't get the infatuation with former players as coaches... especially when they have no prior coaching experience.

I saw that and wondered. Honestly had it been him I would have been highly disappointed. Vrabel was a different animal, but I would say an Ohio State position coach isn't a place where you break someone into coaching or promote from high school. Its a place where you find already established guys and they leave to join Ohio State

Could not agree more. If it were up to most people the OSU defensive staff would look like this:

DL - Mike Vrabel
LBs - Pepper Johnson
Co-CBs - Shawn Springs or Antoine Winfield
Safeties - Mike Doss
DC - Chris Spielman

Definitely agree with that, but the question was coaching experience.

The question was only coaching experience because everyone knows Vrabel just came from the NFL as a player and Finkes hadn't played since '97. In other words, had Finkes played in the NFL this past season, the question never would have been asked. So responding to the question that Vrabel had no coaching experience prior to joining OSU is totally irrelevant to the Finkes situation.

Pepper Johnson does have over a decade of LB/DL coaching experience with the New England Patriots. I would be pretty happy with him on the staff.

Maybe a better sarcastic example would be Katzenmoyer.

I heard the info I was given and thought crap, is this for real. I even told a friend who posts here as well, I will be pissed if this is true. Needless to say, I am relieved. Just because I posted that it may be Finkes, didn't mean I wanted that to be the case. All to many times on these forums.. people jump to conclusions.
