If defensive staff changes are coming, who should OSU be looking to hire?

As far as I can tell the Joseph rumor is coming from some random guy on Twitter.

Re: New Texans coach Bill O’Brien began clearing the way for his first staff Saturday when he fired eight assistants, including defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and offensive coordinator Rick Dennison.
On his second day at work, O’Brien fired position coaches Karl Dorrell (quarterbacks), Chick Harris (running backs), Brian Pariani (tight ends), Larry Kirksey (receivers), Reggie Herring (linebackers) and Vance Joseph (defensive backs).

Just sayin': It may not be "from some random guy", it might be his agent trying to create some interest to get him a new job.

Agree make him the highest paid DC in college plus tell him this isn't the NFL were it seems like every 3 or so years he is looking for a new job cuz the HC is canned. You make this D play well you can be here till you retire with Urban.
well, meatchicken college certainly opened up their checkbook for a new OC so I do not see why we cannot open ours for a new DC.

Actually a valid question. There's a limit as to how many recruiters you can have, but is there a limit to how many coaches you can have?

http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-football/how-many-college-football-coaches/

NCAA Article 11: Conduct and Employment of Athletics Personnel:

11.7.2 Football Bowl Subdivision - There shall be a limit of one head coach, nine assistant coaches and two graduate assistant coaches who may be employed by an institution in bowl subdivision football.

11.7.2.1 Exceptions to Number Limits FBS - No individual other than coaches designated to fill the coaching categories set forth in Bylaw 11.7.2 may participate in any manner in the coaching of the intercollegiate team of a member institution during any football game, practice or other organized activity, with the following exceptions:

11.7.2.1.1 Weight or Strength Coach FBS - A weight (strength and conditioning) coach may conduct flexibility, warm-up and physical conditioning activities prior to any game and prior to or during any practice or other organized activities without being included in the limitations on number of coaches.

11.7.2.1.2 Undergraduate Coach FBS - The limits on the number of coaches in this section do not apply to undergraduate coaches.

Vrabel left on his own. Let's not forget he and BOB were both in New England for a couple of years.

This give Meyer the flexibility he needs to swing for the fences with this DC hire...arguably his most important hire to date.

Thinking this as well. Now your DC hire can literally be a primary DL, LB (fickell can move back to DL), or secondary coach. Not constrained to just secondary.

The guy at Florida, Durkin looks like a perfect fit. Coached LBers and DEs. Coached with Urban.
But you still need a defensive backs coach. Maybe someone like Vance Joseph, recently released with the coaching change at the NFL Texans, would be interesting.
