Idea to Redout Penn State

I have withheld my opinion until now because I am sure it will be taken the wrong way; but what the heck. This is what message boards are for...

I absolutely loathe the fact that we are going to be seen as "borrowing" an idea from Penn State. If you want to do something to organize fan support, do it. But for crying out loud, do something original.

As Mili pointed out, the white-out was a play on words and was original. This is derivative and looks stupid because "red-out" or "scarlet-out" have no meaning outside of this contrived, copy-cat horseshit.

Forget copying Penn State fans. We're better than that. Just be loud.

First game back for the students... they're going to be loud regardless of what they or anyone else is wearing. Until Gene Smith or anyone else actually creates one student section, these ideas are useless.

Agreed. It won't be nearly as impressive unless some non students get involved. Either way, who really cares because we're going to kick their ass whether we have "the most impressive student section ever" or not.

Okay, but only because you told me to be. :wink2:

P.S. I'm goin all out on the scarlet thing because of the red out (face paint and the works) but I'd be wearing a home jersey regardless of whether someone told me to or not. Oh well, I'll humor these people, it should be fun.

What colors should the color-blind fans wear?

many that actually attended the game said that it was the most amazing atmosphere they have encountered at a football game.

Hard to conjure that up with a T-shirt thingy weekend.

The OSU-PSU that I attended in 2002 was quite an amazing atmosphere and there was no contrived shirt thingy.

I'm all for this unity thing, but I don't see it being nearly as effective as Penn State's "whiteout". First of all as has been mentioned, we don't have one solid student section. I'm sure you'll see a large section of solid red down by block O, and then some in the north west corner. But unfortunetly since we're all not sitting in the same area it won't be as effective.

Second, when Penn State did a white out, the majority of the students were wearing some sort of white t-shirt. For this weekend's game I can see a lot of people wearing scarlet jersey's (myself included) that'll not be solid red because of numbering on the shoulders.

I'm not at all saying its a bad idea, but I don't think it'll be nearly as cool as last year's Penn State game.
