I have $2000, buy me a TV...

Obviously HD, but other than that, no rules.

The bigger the better. No brand loyalties. Projection televisions are fine, but not necessarily preferred.

Sam's Club - 50" Vizio Plasma HDTV with Tuner

I saw this one at Sam's and thought that is a little cheap for a 50" Plasma, any experiences with this brand?

Thanks in advance.
I know this is an old post in an old thread, but size matters when it comes to HDTV and there are many good choices inside a $2,000 budget.

For example, this 61" 1080p Samsung DLP/including stand is only $2,000.
Costco $200 Off Samsung 61" DLP 1080P HDTV w/ Matching Stand

No matter how large of a TV you choose, you'll always end up wishing you had something bigger. Mine is a 65", and I want something bigger. :(
As things stand now, I have my eye on a 96" screen and a 1080p-PJ for my light controlled room:biggrin:

I'll second that. I've got two 51" HDTV's now (basement and family room) and am shopping around for a third one that's around 65" and is 1080P (projector wouldn't work in the space). I'll put the new one in the family room and the old 51" one in the bedroom. Definately go with the biggest one you can either fit in your budget or in the room as the screen will seem to get smaller over time.

I dunno about the costco 65" samsung yet...it seems rather shaky to me. I love the picture of the samsungs but the rear projection sets all seem to have some definitive problem that keeps me away. The new toshiba HM167 comes in at a cheap price at 65", but I would purchase a warranty with it because it is the last rear projection set toshiba is making, and there have been reports of the bulbs burning out early. The other choices are the mitsu 65" models. the 831 and 734 are nice and I believe the 833 is coming out soon, but they have minor issues, but you would have to look them up to see if they are livable. I am looking at a 50" SXRD A2000/2020 set from sony right now, but they make a 60 inch version if you are willing to suffice 5 inches. If not, there is the huge 70" XBRs, but they are pricey.

I think I see a correlation here:

Porn is now available in HD

BB73 buys a HD TV

I'm sure the shows make him "very happy".

That's me all right! :wink2:

Actually I'm not even getting HD yet. I have to either upgrade Comcast (which I won't do unless they get BTN soon), or switch to WOW.

But today I saw a Panasonic 46" 1080P for $1399.

BTW...I bought an Sony LCD TV recently, and I could not stand the motion blur during sports (it was 60hz, not 120 hz). Returned it for a new Pioneer Kuro. Much, much better and the contrast blows away any LCD. The blacks are awesome, and cleared up the second problem I had with LCDs...I could not get blacks to look black, just a dark shade of gray. Not under $2000, but the best picture out there hands down.

As for under $2000, I would have to go rear projection or a Panny 720p plasma. If you notice motion blur or get annoyed by poor blacks, do not get LCD.

edit: Also, don't get caught up in the whole 1080p thing. Unless you get a 60" tv or more, or sit 6' or closer to the tv the human eye cannot even pick up much of a difference (I could only see differences up to about 8' with 50" tv's). No one will broadcast in 1080p for many years (I guess about 8...although 1080p does help some with 1080i broadcasts). The vast majority of video games are not 1080p. The only advantage is for bluray/hddvd's and computers. Even then you still have to sit close or have a really big tv to get the advantage.

You really owe it to yourself to get HD programming. Why did you spend $1600+ on a TV to watch a shitty picture? The Comcast signal you're getting is all analog which makes it look even worse than digital standard def. Once you see HD you'll never want to watch anything in SD again.

My old TV died. It was a 26-inch tube that gave a good picture for 20 years.
