It really sucks that this lovely affair has become so divisive. Frankly, I'm getting a little tired of being told, directly or indirectly, that I'm less of a Buckeye for not blindly supporting every action by the University and/or its head football coach.

I, too, am a life member of the Alumni Association. I, too, love my alma mater. I ate Texas Straw Hat in the commons. I jumped in Mirror Lake. I'm extremely proud of all of it. Anyone who deals with me on a daily basis knows it. I suppose it's the class ring, the alumni ring, the watches, the ties, the scarlet and gray in my office and the degree on my wall that gives me away. I also have the right to question/criticize tOSU when it fails to live up to the standards I expect of it, and everyone who runs it.

No one here loves tOSU more than me. No one here is a better "fan". No one here is a bigger Buckeye, through and through. I also know there are others who are feeling the same as me but they're not bold (or stupid) enough to post it. I don't see why it should be a problem. I'm not attacking anyone. I'm drawing attention to a trend I find disturbing - the suggestion that real fans defend everything and question nothing. Pardon my French, but that's bull[Mark May]. I'm questioning and criticizing because I care about tOSU. Not just the football team, but the University.

I'm still not all in with Jim Tressel, Gorden Gee, or Gene Smith. I'd like to be, but if that never happens so be it. tOSU was there before them, and it will be there without them. In the meantime, I hope they elevate their games and regain the worthiness I once thought they had for their positions. Time will tell.

Go Bucks. :osu:

I let my feelings on the subject be known pretty early on in this thread. I have read much of both threads and really didn't feel that after awhile much more could be said that hasn't been said.

I am a Buckeye that comes from a long line of Buckeyes. I lived in Michigan during the Cooper years. It is just truly a dark time for us.

I think I understand what you're saying. If guys know they can sell rings and get free tattoos it can be an incentive to play for that team, even if the amount is different from what's alleged in the Newton scenario by a couple of zeroes for most of the players.

But I'll take issue with the bolded statement. JT allowed them to play, not tOSU. And if contacting a couple of players and their mentors and saying something like "stay away from the tattoo guy, he's bad news", and otherwise sitting on the information is considered 'some lengths', we differ on that phrase.

The facts as they've been reported indicate that JT basically sat on the information. He signed a form saying he knew of no violations, and then didn't mention his knowledge of the situation when the story broke in December.

He's guilty of an NCAA violation, sure, but it hasn't been shown to be a systematic coverup by the institution. If the university wanted to be involved in the coverup, would we have found out about the emails that were discovered in January?

Agreed. That bolded statement should have read Tressel knowingly played ineligible players and went to some lengths to cover that up.

I see what your saying. I guess my thoughts are this.

The act itself of players getting cash or tats for their personal items does not give OSU a competitive advantage on the field. Those players participating on the field when they should have been suspended gives them an advantage. But act itself doesn't give OSU an advantage.

If Cam was paid to come to Auburn, that act gives them a competitive advantage right off the bat.

Avoidance of penalities gave us an advantage the first 5 games of last year, not the actual Tatoos. Auburn gets the competitive advantage of a player that wouldn't have attended their school without cash, and the advantage of avoidance of penalties (assuming he took money and assuming penalties are enforced down the road....big assumptions i know).

Agreed on all counts.

IF Cam was paid to go to Auburn, I hope the NCAA drops the banhammer on them.

I'm not sure if you're referring to the thoughts of other posters, or the way the whole situation has been moderated. I'll address the moderation aspect.

We're just trying to minimize the bickering between Buckeyes with differing opinions. Having that separation has made moderation of the topic somewhat easier, but it hasn't exactly been a joy.

If you got the impression that such a request was intended to indicate that those expressing opinions like yours were 'less of a Buckeye' than those posting in the other thread, I apologize, because that wasn't the intent of having separate threads.

Also, those who want to express unfailing support for JT shouldn't be doing it in this thread, but in the now merged 'stand with - firm thy friendship' thread. Both phrases are in the title to facilitate searches - the 'stand with' thread hadn't had a post since March 16th, although there have probably been a few posts since then that would have been better off being in there.

The threads were separated in order to reduce conflict on the board. Moderators have their own opinions, of course, but ideally when acting as mods we'll attempt to not favor one set of opinions over another.

I had also planned to merge the 2 threads you posted, since they are similar, and we like to merge things like that. Sometimes we don't do that immediately, in order to allow a post that took some time to construct get a little more notice. Sometimes there's a delay, like when my ISP was out for most of the afternoon, as it was today. :tongue2:
1) It does matter when discussing the "if you don't like it, don't play" argument
2) It does not matter that only some football players are able to play professionally
Wrong. The only way to become a doctor is to get your undergrad, go to med school, and do your internship. If you don't like it, don't become a doctor. Same principal. Or, you can just wait until three years after high school and try out for the NFL on your own.

I don't care if a kid has NFL talent or not, while in college he has to obide by the rules, period.

Agreed completely. Same goes for the coaches and administration. Some of the rules seem like crap, but they get paid to live by them. When they don't....well they get punished.

The biggest problem is when players and coaches put themselves above the Program. Thats what happened here plain and simple. If they didn't go over the compliance stuff good enough then why was there only a few that sold their stuff. The problem was a few players thought they were above the rules. Tressel tried to protect them instead of doing what he was supposed to do protect the Program.

There are stupid NCAA rules and yes they are hypocrits...they are the rules though. You still have to follow them. Just because other teams break rules doesn't mean that legitimizes our actions. We broke the rules and lied about it. Now our fate is in the NCAA's hands. End of discussion.

I was just glad to find out the one I hooked up with didn't have a dick.

I felt bad about Kyle duct taping Smoov to a tree in that Pryor jersey.

But then, he shouldn't have passed out. Making him drink a shot for every dropped Pig pass in the Sugar Bowl was pure genius.

As hot as Lulu was, I can imagine worrying that Junior
was gonna bust in the trailer door might be a passion killer.

When you asked "Do you have protection", I was shocked
at the line of products she had stored under that "bump-it" hair-do.

Freaky-deeky. I'd never even heard of Skoal flavored edible panties.
