I may be delusional too, but I tend to agree. This goes against everything we know about JT. Note that I used the word "know" because in the end, I believe that we do know him as opposed to "thought we knew" him.

This still smells of too much fish to me.
True, kids should just opt for that viable path outside of NCAA football to a career playing professional football...
Doesn't matter that college football is virtually the only way to the NFL. And not everyone makes it to the NFL anyway, so if a player goes to college expecting to eventually be drafted does so at his own peril.

I really don't get how people are cool with Tressel sweeping a potential issue under the rug so that these 5 players could play. I thought one of the things we prided ourselves on was winning the right way?
Not that I'm cool with it, but I'll start worrying about winning the right way once every body else has to do things the right way, too.

edit: I didn't used to be that way, but Auburn and SC getting away with what they got away with.....not to mention the ones who haven't really been caught but we all know are cheating.....

the NCAA isn't a company...they are not turning a profit...

You'll have to explain the math behind this post to me... I also don't believe I used the word "profit"

Bottom line is the NCAA makes money, and invests it to grow its sizeble assets... did you even look at the financials?

1) It does matter when discussing the "if you don't like it, don't play" argument
2) It does not matter that only some football players are able to play professionally

Buckyle called it a profit. My point is that saying the NCAA is turning a profit (or pointing out that they have extra operating income--yes i saw the financials) suggests that someone is getting rich off the athletes' backs? Who is getting wealthy? I am sure many of the administrators are paid quite well, but they aren't paid THAT well. Nor is their pay any different than it would be if the football players were getting paid.

The vast majority of the NCAA's money is given to athletic departments and goes to fund the championships for non-revenue sports. The folks benefiting most directly from the "backs" of the football and basketball players are the athletic departments and non-revenue athletes.

Just as a point of reference, the NCAA President has about a $900,000 a year salary... much less than many coaches (and some ADs), but much more than many student athletes are allowed to receive (in benefits, education, etc.).

But, your point about the NCAA spending money on the NCAA (lower divisions, non-revenue sports) is also true.

Most ADs and coaches are running organizations that are slightly smaller than the NCAA too.

So now we have two "great" threads on this issue, and anyone who disagrees even in the slightest is to post in the other thread...this one. :ohwell:

http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/buckeye-football/624394-how-firm-thy-friendship.html

It really sucks that this lovely affair has become so divisive. Frankly, I'm getting a little tired of being told, directly or indirectly, that I'm less of a Buckeye for not blindly supporting every action by the University and/or its head football coach.

I, too, am a life member of the Alumni Association. I, too, love my alma mater. I ate Texas Straw Hat in the commons. I jumped in Mirror Lake. I'm extremely proud of all of it. Anyone who deals with me on a daily basis knows it. I suppose it's the class ring, the alumni ring, the watches, the ties, the scarlet and gray in my office and the degree on my wall that gives me away. I also have the right to question/criticize tOSU when it fails to live up to the standards I expect of it, and everyone who runs it.

No one here loves tOSU more than me. No one here is a better "fan". No one here is a bigger Buckeye, through and through. I also know there are others who are feeling the same as me but they're not bold (or stupid) enough to post it. I don't see why it should be a problem. I'm not attacking anyone. I'm drawing attention to a trend I find disturbing - the suggestion that real fans defend everything and question nothing. Pardon my French, but that's bullshit. I'm questioning and criticizing because I care about tOSU. Not just the football team, but the University.

I'm still not all in with Jim Tressel, Gorden Gee, or Gene Smith. I'd like to be, but if that never happens so be it. tOSU was there before them, and it will be there without them. In the meantime, I hope they elevate their games and regain the worthiness I once thought they had for their positions. Time will tell.

Go Bucks. :osu:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's fine to ask that people not post negativity in an isolated thread intended to show support.

As for the censorship or ostracization, I see a LOT of folks who are not "all in" in this thread:

It's called humanity. Unless you're one of the Smiths, I don't think get why you think this is a trend. We've been doing this for thousands of years:

Religion. Democracy. Politics. Sex. Beards.

I'm not sure where you've been.
Pardon my French
I will never pardon the French.

Could you actually quote the person(s) you are disagreeing with rather than lobbing this generic complaint at everyone? Because from where I'm sitting, there's a pretty diverse set of reactions and opinions on this issue, and most of them overlap.
