You're right!

Those sold rings and gold pants TOTALLY helped OSU win all of those games!

Or like any lying and misrepresenting SEC fan that convinces themselves that oversigning doesn't generate an advantage on the field. No smileyface.

I understand I may be being a bit naive, and I don't give a [censored]. Sports isn't about living in the real world. If it were, someone would've noticed McGwire's 45" neck before 2000.

Your solution is that we all can cheat as much as we want 'cause everyone does it? "Roll Tide" to you, Sir.

To me, this is like Clinton lying over a blowjob. Sure, he shouldn't have lied...but a blowjob isn't illegal, and the guys selling their own [Mark May] shouldn't be either.

Lots of posters have explained why if they are allowed to sell sports related [Mark May], there is no way to reign in boosters and supporters paying outrageous amounts for signed stuff. Tebow could sell his autographed 2006 BCS Champ jersey to some Citrus millionaire for a hundred K...who's to say what the value is when a freaking baseball is worth six figures? The ONLY way to stop that from happening is to say you can't do that while you are in school. Sell the [Mark May] for what you can get as soon as you are a pro, and have your agent set up autograph sessions.

Should the kids get a walking around stipend when the Big-10 and tOSU and the NCAA are getting millions? Yeah - I think so. But Tress and tOSU and TP ALL agreed to play by the rules when they signed on as a college coach, NCAA institution and tOSU player. So [censored]ing play by the rules. Your excuse is that if you do not like the rule, and it helps you to lie, then lie. Why the hell not add some [Mark May] on your expense account, it is not FAIR that you are paid less than you deserve!! :pissed: [censored] that Kyle, they agreed to the rules, so shut up and live by them or don't play.

The fact that the same "governing body" that is responsible for punishing everyone involved is the same corrupt group of hypocrites cashing the [censored]ing checks with "Pryor" written in the memo line just makes me [censored]ing sick.

I don't really disagree man. A great topic for another thread. But Kyle, this is the "not all in" thread. I don't have a problem talking about this in the Wappa Goo thread ....but why not sell that to the "stand with" guys and gals? We're not [censored]ing over there, in the Tress was battling drug dealers club, so why the need to camp out here telling us that Tress' actions were okey-dokey over here?

Yeah. We could move this to a "spirit of the red shirt rule" and "taking advantage of the kids" discussion about oversigning. But the big fat subject that is the cause of the thread is the major violation of an NCAA rule and its effect on the coach and program. I don't see how it evolving into a "Yeah - our coach was protecting guys from felons...but YOU are all oversigning like!!!" adds anything to the discussion. Again, why not go bash me/the SEC on the "stands with" board. It's like Rice-a-roni....there's more than one flavor of noodley goodness.

I disagreed with Systems saying that the NCAA had no moral leg to stand on, that's all. I think that breaking an NCAA rule to allow otherwise ineligible star athletes to keep playing for you does not fit his "no big deal" view. He is welcome to it. That is why it is a discussion board. I maybe could've not used sarcasm to make a point - - - but I am barely evolved beyond throwing poo.

Yet another non-sequitur from StrawmanUBet. :roll1:
I'm trying to not get this into an SEC versus tOSU [censored]ing match. A little help here Bobcat, if you please. I'll meet you at the [censored]ing oversigning thread if you'd like, but so far I still say that it is wrong to dismiss what is happening as some trumped up NCAA bull[Mark May] that nobody cares about. If it is a nothing, then keep violating enough trumped up NCAA bull[Mark May] that nobody cares about......and you'll wind up watching other people's teams on TV with your 72 Scholarship players and a new coach and AD.

Systems said: "Tress lying to the NCAA is like lying to Mafia about a traffic ticket or something. Sure you shouldn't do it but it's not like the NCAA has a moral leg to stand on here." Pardon me for not buying that.

My comment had nothing to do with oversigning. I'm sorry if you are butt hurt that I don't agree that the mean men are being mean to you for no reason except they are meanies. Again, there is another thread with a different outlook that will LOVE that insight - why not express that there where saying what Systems said won't devolve into a spat.

Hell, on the other hand, if it makes you feel better about yourself, flail away at the SEC for a few days. Cam took $200K and the NCAA did NOTHING!!! The SEC's only excuse for ovesigning is the mouth breathers CAN'T COUNT!! :pissed: If the ESPN was not in bed with Slive and the SEC crooks then nobody would notice or care if Tress got a letter from the NCAA!!! You can't spell CHEATS without SEC!!!!

1. What constitutes an "outrageous amount?" I fail to see what the problem is for a student-athlete to realize his market value in the same manner as a talented Computer Science major who moonlights as a programmer.

2. The idea that players should wait till they turn pro to sell their stuff sounds nice, but what about the collegiate star who isn't good enough to play NFL? Their prime earning potential years (when they're BMOC) are gone, along with all the potential income. That is counter to the interests of the student-athletes, which by definition is bad IMO.

3. The idea that a "bidding war" for athletes would result from allowing athletes to sell memorabilia is ridiculous - because anyone who thinks bidding isn't already going on, perhaps more subtly, is an idiot. This would simply bring that out into the light of day. Big-time athletes already go to the big-money programs; that won't change regardless of what the NCAA does.

4. The word usage should be "rein in," not "reign in."

Exactly. This question is why the rule exists.

It does happen. I just don't see the positive in legitimizing it.

If the discussion is turning into players being able to cash in on their market value, I don't see the point in college football existing anymore. There's enough guise about most of these players being "students" as is.

If you wish to "return to a more innocent time" in college football, you'd have to travel to the 19th century. The kind of extra benefits available to big-time college players in the 1920s to 1950s dwarfed what most pro players could make. The idea that money-for-play is somehow a recent phenomenon is hilarious.
