There is one thread for those who want to voice their unequivocal support of Jim Tressel. I respect others opinions so instead of turning that thread into a trainwreck I'll simply post my thoughts here and hope for the same treatment.

After reading the emails there is no way I can buy the story about Tressel keeping it quiet for the safety of the kids. IMO he used that as an excuse to keep a couple of players he knew damn good and well should have been ineligible, eligible at the start of what was a NC contending season.

I also think the 2 game suspension by OSU is no better than Tennessee backing Bruce Pearl. Tressel should have gotten a years suspension if not removed from his post.

I know from PM's and feedback that I'm not alone so I thought I'd provide a thread for those of the dissenting opinion to go without starting any holy wars on the site.

I disagree and to put this into perspective, an student assistant at Notre Dame is dead and their coach hasnt sit the sidelines or been removed, as a matter of fact this one is long forgotten. I believe he was acting for the safety of his boys. Go Bucks

Duly noted even though I'm sure you meant to put this in the other thread since we're trying hard not to have this one turn into a back and forth bewteen those who do and those who don't buy it.

Makes no sense at all. JT is going to take the public humiliation, 2 game suspension, quarter million dollar fine and tarnish his legacy to protect a couple of low level compliance employees. The man's not gandhi and jesus rolled into one. Besides, gee and smith would never allow it since whacking a couple of compliance officials is a lot easier and cleaner than what they're going through right now.

If the violations are against the program then the program gets punish. If its against say a coach or player then they get punish.

If you are taken care of why wouldnt you take the fall?

Look, all of this assumption assumes that JT gave the info to compliance and they did nothing....and then JT NEVER followed up. As hard as it is to believe that JT swallowed this info, I will never believe that he DID forward it to someone else and then just forgot about it and let this fester until it got to this point. No way... If he passed it along, you can be DAMN sure he followed up on it.

I tell you what, seems like there are too many opinions to go around.

Much more (in my humble IMHO) unnecessary ranting and venting than deliberate rational discussion.

Probably myself included.

Err, just wanted to point something out because I've seen several posters do it and I nitpick at these things.. When you say "just my imo", or in this case "in my humble imho", you are literally saying "in my humble in my humble opinion". And that jusy sounds silly imho ;P

But yeah, I agree. But I also think that a lot of us just need to rant or vent at a time like this. It helps us deal ya know? So beat the shit out of this dead horse, I say.

In my IMO, I think you're missing something in my IMO.

Read the e mails yesterday at lunch.

This seems to me to be a case of ego run amok. I think Coach Tressel, in looking at his history, has been running through the rain without getting wet for awhile now.

There is a history with some of his players running afoul of the NCAA and Coach Tressel having some plausible deniability in each of those cases.

Not this time.

This one is sitting directly on his shoulders.

He should have walked that first e mail right down the hall to compliance and gotten it off of his desk. That would have been the right thing to do. That nonsense about safety of his players was a cop out. The whole press conference was an embarassment. The e mails clearly show that.

An earlier poster said as much: if this had been a few fourth string players I'm sure we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I'm so disappointed.

I feel like 99% of coaches in college sports get insta fired for being involved in something like this...especially when you read over those e-mails.

I'm having a hard time believing this was about anything other than Tressel wanting to keep his best players on the field.

Tressel made himself and the school look completely ridiculous. I'm not saying I hate the dude or even dislike him. I still have love for Tressel and I always will...but that said, even thinking about it a few days later, there is no question in my mind he should be fired for this.

There aren't too many situations where you can mislead your bosses, blatantly ignore and break protocol, and embarrass the institution you are representing and have even the slightest bit of chance of keeping your job.

You can kind of deal with and accept 18-22 year old student athletes making mistakes. But this...well, I'm having a really hard time sugar coating it. I hope these feelings go away.
