How many Big East teams make the Sweet 16?

Butler has defeated a 1 seed from the Big East two years in a row. (Last year it was Syracuse)

Big East? Fuck that, the Horizon rules! Youngstown State beat Butler this season.

Did it ever occur to the experts who thought 11 teams from this conference should get bids that part of their gaudy records came from beating up on the 5 shitty teams at the bottom of it? The top 8 teams from "the toughest conference in the country" are out after the first weekend, 9 of 11 bids altogether.

They lost to a 13 seed, three 11 seeds, a 10 seed, and two 8 seeds. The two who survived did so by beating other Big East schools. :slappy:

And nobody hit the 19-1 payout for such a disastrous performance.

for the last two tournaments, 19 big east teams received bids. only 4 made the sweet sixteen. 14 of the 17 bettors of this wager (save for the one guy who selected '3') would have lost even if the 2010 tournament had been thrown in for free.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the Big East. None of the teams were great. The conference was very, very good though. They have the depth that no other conference had (probably because they have 18 teams in the conference). I thought the best team was Notre Dame and they still have the chance to make an impact in the tournament. UConn is obviously pretty good.

I'm not really sure about either Marquette or Syracuse. Marquette played great in the first meeting and Syracuse didn't play well at all. I don't think that will happen again.

Anyways,

11/64= .1718785

.171875*16= 2.75

If the Big East gets 3 teams in the sweet sixteen, then they are doing average.

Well, as we all know they only got 2. So that is below average.

Yet the other thing you leave out is their seedings. The average is assuming you have teams ranging from the 1 to 16 seed. Yet they only had 2 teams above a 6 seed, and 4 were 3 seeds or better. 4 would be the minimum in that case, and probably should be 5 or 6. So getting only 2 is horrible.
