I noticed that the players seemed to have more leaves, in general, in 2002 than in previous years. And it seemed to be a lot more, proportionally, than simply because there were 14 games played, instead of only 12. I'd never heard before that they only get leaves for a win, but that certainly would account for what seemed like the "extra" buckeye leaves.

The extra two games on the schedule certainly helped, and going undefeated to boot really pads the numbers on the helmet stickers. If you consider that everyone gets a sticker for a win (13), plus another for a Big-10 win (8), you're entering the Fiesta Bowl with a bare minimum of 21 stickers, a quarter of what the helmet can fit, before you've even accounted for any others. I don't have the statistics, but I would think the Bucks won TO margin in at least 75% of their games, so there is another 10 stickers. If 24 pts on offense gets you a sticker, every offensive player adds 7, if 13 pts or less you gets you a sticker on defense, there's 6.

So far, everyone has around 40 (half a helmet), and that's for the guys who don't even get to travel for road games ...

That site kicks all kinds of arse. Whoever was really interested in finding out the guys in trouble for Miami can use their powers of deduction. I also like the fact that they showed the team goals for achieving a Buckeye, if not the individual and off-field awards the players can earn.

and the sdsu game. pretty clear to see who likely graded well and who didn't. 3 leaves for ts on a winning game where the offense was credited with 5... reasonable chance he failed :p. 10 for carp when the d was credited with 8... reasonable chance he might have passed :p.

I too looked for the zeros for suspensions. Haw, who many felt was suspended actually received a leaf for the Miami game. Frost appears to be out of the doghouse as he received one this past week.

Question - how did Santonio only get one if Ted got six last week? Typo? Most of these are unit based so if you play special teams you pick up more. I thought Holmes did a better job on special teams than Ginn.

In the procedure of awarding Buckeye Leaves, i have noticed that in the loss to Texas, no leaves were awarded to any player at all. Is this part of tradition, that if Ohio State loses a game, no one get an award period?

Whitner leads the team in leaves. He's definetly the player that has jumped out at me the most out of that defensive backfield.

yep, the only knock i had about whitner early in his career was he tended to look for the big hit first and wrapping up was a very distant second on his priorities list. however, you can tell the kid really studies film. he seems to have a very strong ability to pick up on audibles and on many occasions has known exactly where the ball was going to go before it was even snapped. i think he is going to continue to have a very good year for us.
