Heisman 2012 vBet and discussion

Field wasn't as good as it normally is. I wouldn't have had a problem with any of the three winning it. Arguing over it is a waste of time. If the Heisman is a joke now, this field was the punchline.

This. Now, I know it's difficult to give the Heisman to a defensive player, but I guess I'm in the minority. I think Suh should have won the award a few years ago, I think Te'o should have won the award this year (given the finalists). Oh well, nothing holding any Buckeyes back next year. There might be 3 players on the Buckeyes fighting for Heisman stats.

if a defender was going to win it, it should have been Mathieu last year.

what he did for us in some of our biggest games was unlike anything I'd ever seen before.

he swung momentum and opened the flood gates for us against Oregon, WVu, Arkansas, UGA.

hell, he took over the SEC CG for us.

But Griffin was an exceptional candidate and had better stats than Manziel. If Mathieu had another one of those seasons then I agree he should have won it this year.

i agree that Griffin was the right choice.
just saying that if a defender/return guy has a season like Mathieu did last year and doesn't win it, I don't really see any defender having a great chance at the award.

Te'O was almost the perfect storm playing for ND in an undefeated season.
But realistically, there is a LB down in Georgia who I felt is a better player, and probably had a better season.

But since that guy didn't play for ND, and the feel good back story, he wasn't invited to New York.

True but in hindsight Griffin has validated his passing skills in the NFL so it's hard to say he wouldn't have done the same thing in the SEC.

Has nothing to do with the Heisman. :p

Manziel did what he did in the SEC, so imagine what he would've done in the Big 12. I'm not making that argument. I'm just showing you that what you said works both ways.

Almost as misleading as his tackle stats while his defense was on the field for the 3rd least amount of plays in the country.

He had the most tackles on his team (something a MLB usually does). He had a high INT number for his position. He played on one of two undefeated teams this year. Was he important to his team, absolutely. But what else would make him a heisman candidate, besides playing for ND, over any other LB this year?

Only missing two tackles all season. I think Shazier missed at least two tackles a game. How many times did you see a pass bounce of Te'os hands vs. Shaziers. Te'o didn't leave any plays on the field which I think puts him in a class by himself this year.

Is this from a ND source, or is there actual proof of this stat?

Edit: It also helps when half of your tackles are shared, compared to solo.

From ESPN

Te?o has 103 tackles this season, 42 more than any other player on Notre Dame. He has just two missed tackles all season. As a team, the Irish have missed 61 tackles this season, the third-fewest among AQ schools.

Since when did non-missed tackles become a statistic? I have never seen it posted in any box score.
