Heisman 2012 vBet and discussion

The missed tackle stat to me shows he made every play he possibly could have.

ok, then find me how many missed tackles the other top handful of LBs had.
is 2 missed ridiculously higher than the next few guys? I have no clue.

hell, LSU had 2 LBs with similar number to Te'O across the board, except for INTs.

edit: no i'm not making the case that our LBs were "Heisman quality". In fact just the opposite. I don't think either of our guys was the best at their position in the conference, let alone the best overall player in the country.

Like I said Shazier would miss at least 2 a game. I haven't watched Jarvis Jones a whole lot or any of the LSU guys.

The Heisman has become nothing but an offensive award. The only way for a defensive player to win the Heisman is to have a tackle on every play of every game. Defensive stats will never compare to total yards and TD's. It's not fair.

That's why there's the: Bednarik Award

Thank you, Jesus, and the people who didn't vote for Te'o.

How do you feel about Archie's record, Cinci? I understand you don't like Notre Dame, but if it comes down to Archie's record or Notre Dame getting a Heisman, which do you prefer?

As far as how I feel as an OSU and Irish fan, if it came down to it I would have rather had any of the other possible candidates win. Te'o is included, but I would have rather had Klein, Braxton, or Lee win rather than Manziel. No one has ever had 3 opportunities to win a 2nd Heisman and Manziel will most likely be a favorite or at least a leading candidate in the new few years. I kind of like Archie being in a class by himself, it's well deserved and it should take a player on another level to achieve that feat. It's inconceivable, but Manziel could theoretically win the award 3 times, although it's more likely someone else will emerge and Manziel will have a loss or two again that will knock him down a notch.

We keep talking about Miller next year but I'd like to see Hyde and Shazier get some love next year too.

If there were a second place Heisman trophy list, it would be filled with the names of guys who played on teams with two or more candidates. And somewhere on there would be the names of Rex Kern and Jack Tatum.

Given the numbers he put up, it's going to be hard to keep Manziel from getting his second, possibly a third. Frankly, like most of us here, I was amazed by his performance on a mediocre team. And yes, I'm happier if he wins a second Heisman, especially if second place goes to Jolson who's bound to be a force in the next few years' races.

Miller had the misfortune to look bad against Wisconsin and second to Shoe Lice (who had the good fortune of not being able to throw, keeping him from full scrutiny) in The Game.

I disagree. He can put up ridiculous stats like he did this year, and voters won't look the other way on his W-L record and still vote for him like they did this year. They'll realize that two Heismans is rarefied air--he'll have to put up good stats AND be a winner the second time around.

Johnny Manziel had Heat-Mavs courtside tickets ... so what?

Eyebrows raised from Austin to South Bend and elsewhere when Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel was spotted sitting courtside at Thursday night's Heat-Mavericks game. Those are expensive seats, well beyond the means of the average college student. Very much worth noting, however, that Manziel's family appears to be quite well off, so despite the speculation, there's no reason to assume funny business.

Entire article: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2012/12/21/3791138/johnny-manziel-courtside-mavs-heat-ncaa

I'll believe that his family paid for the tickets only when I see their credit card statement/cancelled check, etc.

kid wrecked his Benz when he first came onto campus. I don't think money is an issue for his family. But I agree, dumb move to be court side here, AND at the Rockets game a few nights earlier. AND hanging out in the locker room in Houston with the players. Pretty sure that's not a normal ticket inclusion.
