Heat-Mavs 2011 NBA Finals

This Dallas team can't score to save their lives down the stretch. It's Dirk and no one else. Peja needs more playing time. Berea played horribly all game long. Kidd was alright. Don't get me started on Marion. :shake:

Really bad game by Jason Terry last night. He missed several shots down the stretch, including a great look at a 3-pointer with about a minute to play in a tie game. He missed, and Bosh hit a mid-range jumper at the other end. Game over.

yeah, that blown three point call at the end of the 1st quarter lost Dallas the game. Didn't have anything to do with the 18 turnovers or the three point bricks they were laying in the 4th quarter.......

Mavs caught some good breaks with the loose ball fouls that put Dirk on the line 6 times late in the game. (edit....3 times but for 6 foul shots)

My post was in jest. I know that the actual time-and-score affects the way plays are called and decisions are made in the last few minutes of a game, so it's not like that call would've meant that Dallas would win the game by a point.

But I don't know why the refs aren't allowed to review a call like that at the end of a quarter. It wouldn't have delayed the game at all to look at that during the TV break. Although they probably would have had to say the violation gave the ball to Dallas with a half a second on the clock.

The refs had a really bad game overall. Lots of blown calls and bad calls both ways. It just sucks that incompetent reffing takes away from the game.

Good breaks due to Haslem shoving Dirk and rightly getting called for it is not the same as a blown call by the refs at the end of the first quarter that incorrectly gave 3 points to the Heat.

i thought a couple of those loose ball fouls on miami were questionable calls. overall that was a poorly officiated game. lots of flops and the refs are preventing physical play, which is a shame being that it's the finals.

The game was poorly officiated, but no more so than any other game in the series, IMO. Dallas had its chances, but, as I said before, Terry really let them down in the clutch last night. I also thought the last play wasn't very good--I agree you've got to go to Dirk, but they should've tried a little harder to get him some space. That was a really tough shot he took, and I'll never understand taking a really tough two-pointer when you're down two with the ball at the end of the game. If you're going to take a tough shot, it may as well be a three, in which case you win if it goes in.

The Mavs' whole bench has let them down. Terry, JJ and Peja have been huge for Dallas both during the season and in the playoffs. They have been turrible in the Finals. Some of that credit goes to Miami's D. But anyone watching can see the missed layups and wide-open jumpers for themselves. The good news is that if the bench wakes up, Dallas should win.

i would agree with that if it was any other player but dirk. that looked like a tough shot, but that is his shot - an awkward fade away off one foot. defense is at the mercy of him everytime.

yeah...because every time someone is shoved in the paint it is called. Guys were getting murdered under there then wth 2 minutes to go Dirk gets some freebies. 2 of the calls could have been no calls or a foul...one was a phantom foul.

For what it's worth, refcalls.com says that it probably wasn't a backcourt violation

Well, we looked at the rulebook to find out for ourselves since it's a pretty rare scenario. If you've been reading what we've been writing on this site over the past few weeks, you probably have picked up on the theme about how the rulebook is detailed in some areas, nebulous in others, and just has huge gaps in other parts.

We believe this scenario involving Chalmers falls into the last category - in a gap. It's not clearly explained what should be ruled, but if you go through the process of elimination, we have come to the conclusion that it was NOT a backcourt violation. Here's why:

Chalmers' foot wasn't on the halfcourt line when he caught the pass. He actually jumped into the air to catch the ball, then came down in the frontcourt. This is a fatal flaw that ABC and others have been assuming for some reason, when the video clearly shows he wasn't.
And it goes on for a bit in more detail.

Peja can't guard anyone on the Heat. I'm not sure he could even guard me at this point.
