China Bans Effeminate Men From TV

Broadcasters must "resolutely put an end to sissy men and other abnormal esthetics," the TV regulator said, using an insulting slang term for effeminate men — niang pao, or literally, "girlie guns."

That reflects official concern that Chinese pop stars, influenced by the sleek, girlish look of some South Korean and Japanese singers and actors, are failing to encourage China's young men to be masculine enough.

I don't know about outrage, but a basic news search in whatever search engine turns up a whole host of "national" articles about this same topic, from 3-4 weeks ago when your linked article was posted. Even The Onion got in on the action.

Here's one from my new home town of Cincinnati.

Man arrested after being caught on video masturbating at Family Dollar store, court docs say

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A man is accused of inappropriately touching an employee and then being caught masturbating on surveillance video at a Reading store.

Court documents say, Garrett Penn, 35, walked into the Family Dollar store in the 8800 block of Reading Road, went to the back office without permission, and then attempted to steal paper towels.

Penn was asked to leave but before he left, he rubbed an employee’s arm and touched her rear end, according to the documents.

The documents say that officers reviewed the store’s video footage and discovered that Penn was masturbating while watching the employee on their surveillance cameras.
