HC Ryan Day (National Champion)

I don't think you'll find anyone here who thinks it's acceptable to threaten him, let alone his children. I have obviously been enjoying the redemption arc of Ryan Day, and hope he stays and is taught the history of Woody by some true Buckeye historian like Tressel (you know, Woody Hayes, the guy they burned in effigy on campus in the 50s), and that he can be the next legendary coach here at Ohio State and live forever.

Fact is: if this was any other season before 2024, one of the greatest Ohio State teams ever would have been a 2-loss team in just another bowl game getting their shit shoved in with nothing to play for.

The expanded playoffs have allowed this to blossom, and the loss to UM was the best thing that could have happened to Ryan Day and this team.

This roster was nearly pissed away with 0 hardware in 4 years.

Weird world.

Now, apologize.

While It's absolutely fuckin pathetic that someone sent death threats and adults talking shit to his kids is reprehensible, getting a little tired of the "there are bad people and they exist in real life" narrative. Like yeah no shit. There are shit people all over. I have to deal with them too. Make me the highest paid employee in the fuckin state and you can keep your sympathy. I'll hire bodyguards and sleep on my bed of money.

He took the fuckin job. Part of that is beating tsun. I'm not changing my expectations so he doesn't get his feelings hurt.

That being said I love coach and hope he stays as long as he wants as long as he beats tsun...maybe what? 50% or more sounds acceptable if we're in the playoff yearly. I don't think that's too big an ask considering the resources available to him. If he wants a less stressful job he can load trucks for me. I'll protect him. It's against corporate policy to threaten death. Even if he screws up.

If you go to take a job as a security guard and they issue you a gun and pay extra, there is a reason. It isn't ok to shoot security guards and we all wish there was no crime, no hunger etc but there is. It's reality.

You take a high profile pressure cooker job like OSU and there is going to be sun-like heat if things don't go well. It isn't ok to involve the family and we all wish that didn't happen but there is an ugliness to this life that you have to understand is going to be there.

But should we condemn that ugliness or should we excuse it?
I'm not talking about micro aggressions or calling adults names. I'm not talking about "cancelling" a group or an individual. I'm talking about allegedly verbally harassing children and allegedly threatening others with acts of physical violence. I say allegedly because I have no first hand knowledge but I believe there is enough evidence out there to prove those things happened.
There is a reason we have laws in this country. I believe there are way too many of those on the books but that is for another conversation. I'm talking about acts that 99.9% of the people would agree are reprehensible, and it's difficult to get 99.9% of the people to agree on whether its raining or not. Verbally abusing children and threatening acts of violence should be condemned, not excused as just being an excitable boy.

Condemn away I guess if you think it helps or makes you feel better.

You (not meaning you specifically, the general you) aren't going to shame anyone that would shoot a security guard or threaten a coaches family into behaving any differently.

Acceptance of a behavior which has previously been condemned leads to changes in societal norms. We have all seen this in our lifetime. Will there always be people who act contrary to societal norms? Absolutely. Will there be more people gravitate towards what we currently consider bad if it is normalized? Absolutely. We have all seen it happen.
Evil should be called out, not accepted.

Sadly, I think neither of you are wrong.

Then spend time condemning war, hunger, pediatric cancer and other such things that actually matter.

Calling out every instance of the limitless degree of human ugliness seems a waste of breath to me.

In my experience, when you are in a leadership position, you can expect threats on your person and against your family. It is important to realize that you need to build relationships with law enforcement because threats will be made, especially when you stand against corruption. I am quite sure that Coach Day has had the best of protection in Columbus. I am equally sure that his team challenged him after the TCUN loss with the same criticisms that appeared on this board.

What is impressive is that he accepted the very valid criticisms of his coaching performance as a wake-up call that has seen him begin to truly reach his potential. He has finally allowed his coordinators to do their jobs. He has been attentive to in-game issues and responded as they arose. He has shown emotion and lead his team.

Ryan Day sits in one of the best coaching jobs in all of sports. He is showing signs of being a legendary coach for a generation in that position. Is it a tough job? Yes. Is next year going to be a real challenge because so many seniors leave? Yes. Can he, his coaching team, and the returning players meet that challenge? Personally, I think they can.

I don't need to be told the world can be cruel. I live in it. There is something that can damn near insulate one from the harsh realities of life for 8 billion people on earth and Ryan Day gets more every year than all of us.

My worst fear is getting a text from my daughter as the fuckin shooter enters her classroom. That fear would be much less so if I could afford to send her to private school but that's life. He is well compensated for the shit he has to deal with. The second it's not worth it...if he really believed his children were in danger, he is a free born white man in 2025 America. He can quit whenever he wants and the masses will sympathize with him for doing so.

I hope the person that threatened his family is met with street justice and I hope Ryan sticks around for a half century and I hope he can beat tsun before it's too late.

This cannot be overstated. This redemption arc is built on Day getting an opportunity no other OSU head coach ever had, or even dreamed about. It's easy to imagine how many more NCs Meyer might have with a 12-team playoff, much less Tressel or Woody with a bankroll to pay players.

Day still needs to get the job done Monday. I was never critical of him until I walked out of Ohio Stadium about 3:30pm on November 30th.

It's more than fair to question the future status when results aren't met. The three stated goals for the program have not been achieved for four years, pending Monday's result. If I had three stated goals that weren't achieved year after year, I would expect my employer to question my ability to achieve them and whether they wanted to continue to keep me in that position, regardless of how great a guy I am.

I think the dude is legit, and was given a raw deal having to learn on the job at a place with expectations like Ohio State. I think anyone who questioned his coaching ability was right to do so, because prior to these last three games, the sample size was large enough to support it. Day deserves a result because of the work he's put in over his career. He and his family do not deserve the vitriol they've received. Let's hope that for a lot of people's sake the result Monday is a good one for the Buckeyes. Maybe it's the moment we've all been waiting for for the coach and program.

Agree with your post.
However, it’s also possible that we would not have won one or both of the championships we did.
